Kind of thinking of going to Seattle. Have lived there on and off twice. Know the whole area. Need to do more research into CHOP. Intrigues me. I used to use the homeless system there where they send you to different places and check in at one place and they send you to one of eight. And I left an apartment fully furnished and just went. Not afraid of life to a degree and reason. I would get it in a minute and already mostly do.
So interested in Chop and that movement. Summer vacation, lol. Fuck it. This droll existence. I know Seattle. I used to sleep at the dog park on the bench overlooking the stadiums.
Ready to see and experience this.

Still safer than Chicago.
I predict it gets commercialized like haight ashbury or the French Quarter. Just another step toward more gentrification.

To be fair Chicago is no where near the most dangerous city in America. Just off the top of my head, Miami, Baltimore, St. Loius, Richmond have higher murder rates.

Murder rate doesn't equal danger. Sure some murders are bystanders but most are not. Dangerous is the experience in some parts of Chicago.

According to a police blog, officers responding to the shooting said they “were met by a violent crowd that prevented officers safe access to the victims”.
Video released by police appeared to show officers arriving at the protest zone saying they wanted to get to the victim and entering as people yelled that the victim was already gone. Police mostly retreated from the zone after clashes with protesters, KIRO-TV reported.
Private vehicles took two males with gunshot wounds to Harborview Medical Center, where the 19-year-old died and the other was in critical condition in intensive care.
The King county medical examiner’s office had yet to release the identity of the dead man. Seattle city council member Kshama Sawant said he was black.
The suspect or suspects fled the scene. Police asked the public for information.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/jun/21/seattle-chaz-shooting-police-free-zone
So let me get this straight Black lives matter The guy shot in the CHAZ was black The reaction of the crowd was to prevent an emergency response and to stand there watching as the shooter escapes. So the warlord guy is just s symbol to stop journalists from taking pictures, or stop Trump supporters from getting it, when it comes to actual shootings he is nowhere to be found. And the antifa or whatever we are calling these people, instead of doing anything about real actual gun crime in this area they are supposed to be protecting they choose to prevent emergency vehicles from gaining access. They created a safe space for shootings

Am unclear on the sentiment with regards to prevention of emergency response the story says that that by the time the police got there the victims had already been en route to the hospital and the suspects had already fled the scene, but apparently the public has been providing information for the investigation
there is definite issue of not catching the culprit off the bat, but nothing about the story seems to imply that police having access would have been beneficial in terms of emergency response

protests were held in Mississauga, Ontario on Sunday for an elderly man shot by police on Saturday Police were called to someone having a schizophrenic breakdown, and rather than wait for a negotiator they busted in to the apartment, tased and shot him police were not initially called -- the call for police support was put in by Paramedics who saw the victim had a knife, guessing a kitchen knife due to lack of specification in the article
Even with the improved training available to Canada's police forces it takes a matter of seconds for them to turn a situation deadly
Quote:
The province's police watchdog is investigating the death of a 62-year-old man who was shot by a Peel Region police officer in Mississauga on Saturday evening.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said that officers were called to an apartment unit at 3425 Morning Star Dr., near Goreway Drive, at about 5 p.m. to "check on the well-being of a man."
Peel police Const. Sarah Patten said the initial call reported that the man was suffering from a medical condition and not taking his medication.
Patten said the man, who was alone in the unit, was in a "state of crisis" and believed to have weapons on him in his residence.
Muhammed Choudry said the victim was his uncle and he suffered from schizophrenia and other illnesses.
"He was a harmless man," he said, adding that his uncle was "not a threat."
Quote:
Video posted on Twitter
A video taken by a bystander on Saturday night, which was posted by Mississauga Imam Ibrahim Hindy on Twitter, shows tactical units entering the second-floor unit through the balcony.
Three officers are seen kicking open the door and yelling into the residence.
A series of gunshots can be heard before all three officers enter the apartment.
The SIU release said that uniform and tactical officers, as well as officers with the force's K9 unit, responded to the incident and communicated with the man, who had barricaded himself inside the residence.
Patten said officers were in constant communication with the man until just before 8 p.m., and then "no further communication was able to be made."
"The state of crisis that he was in and the belief that he had access to weapons, yes, we believe that he was a danger to himself," Patten told reporters Saturday night.
Due to his "extensive medical history" and lack of communication for almost 15 minutes, she said, officers made the decision to enter the residence "to check on his well-being."
Once police entered the apartment unit, "an interaction occurred which included officers deploying a conducted energy weapon at the man, as well as firing plastic projectiles from an Anti-Riot Weapon ENfield," the SIU release said.
"When these had no effect, an officer discharged a firearm and the man was struck."
He died at the scene shortly after.
Peel police told CBC Toronto Sunday that a crisis negotiator was contacted, but officers decided to enter the victim's residence without the presence of a negotiator. Police could not confirm if a crisis negotiator ever arrived at the scene.
Quote:
Family holds media conference and rally
Family and community members spoke to reporters outside the residence Sunday afternoon, recalling the events leading up to the shooting a day earlier.
Hassan Choudhary, the victim's nephew, said his uncle was "harmless."
"He could barely take three, four steps," he said.
"You're telling me a 62-year-old man ... who can barely breathe to begin with is going to run and attack you?"
The victim's eldest daughter initially called a non-emergency ambulance on Saturday evening because her father was having an "episode," according to Khizar Shahzad, who is also a nephew of the victim.
Once paramedics arrived, they saw that the victim had a knife and called police, Shahzad said.
When officers arrived, all other family members were removed from the unit, he said, at which point the victim's daughter called for her father from outside the unit.
The victim went to the door, saw officers coming toward him and shut himself back inside the unit, Shahzad said.
Shahzad, who arrived at the building at about 7 p.m., said he informed the supervising officer of the severity of his uncle's condition and explained the situation.
"I said, 'Hey, he's scared of your uniform, he's not scared of you,'" he recalled telling the officer.
Quote:
Family pleaded to intervene
The victim's brother, Rafaquat Ali Choudry, along with nephew Muhammed Choudry, pleaded with police to let a family member go up to the unit to speak with the man.
Rafaquat said his brother didn't speak any English and was afraid of police — his condition made him paranoid.
Muhammed said he's grown up knowing his uncle's medical condition, having dealt with situations like this before.
"Let me go upstairs, let my dad go upstairs, let my brother go upstairs," he recalls asking police.
"Because we've done this before where he listens. He listens to us."
At this point, Shahzad said officers were trying to break the door open, while he was begging them not to hurt his uncle.
"He's so frail that even a tackle I was afraid was going to kill him," he said.
As that was going on, Shahzad said officers came in from the balcony and shot his uncle.
Hassan Choudhary said the family wasn't aware that the victim had died until they saw video of the shooting that had surfaced online.
"Everything that happened yesterday, it really shows you who's here to protect and serve you — there is no one," he said.
Rallies were held in the area of the incident throughout the day Sunday, and into the evening.
Quote:
Victim was a husband, father of 4
Muhammed said his uncle, who has been identified by family members as Ejaz Ahmed Choudry, leaves behind his wife and four children, the youngest being seven years old.
Ejaz, from Pakistan, was the eldest brother of five children.
Abdul Mulla, who lived on the same floor as Ejaz, was there when the incident occurred.
He was told by police to stay inside his own unit, where he said he heard bangs from the neighbouring residence.
Mulla said Ejaz was a nice person, adding that he was "no trouble to anyone."
"He was a very nice guy," he said. "Everybody respected him."
Quote:
Knife recovered at the scene: SIU
In a news release issued Sunday afternoon, the SIU said its investigators have completed a canvass of the area in an attempt to locate evidence, and they recovered a knife from the scene.
The SIU said several witnesses have been interviewed, and investigators are in possession of video footage.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted on Monday, according to the release.
"The SIU is working diligently to ensure the investigation is concluded, and its findings released, as expeditiously as possible," it reads.
"Until such time, we ask for the public's continued patience, and to avoid making any premature conclusions."
Quote:
Mississauga mayor asks SIU to act quickly
Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie sent out her condolences Sunday afternoon, saying in a tweet that her "heart goes out to his family."
She also asked the SIU to act quickly, saying the Peel Regional Police budget for next year will be "reviewed through a different lens."
"Our goal is to support the vulnerable and ensure these incidents never happen again," Crombie said in the tweet.
In a release issued Sunday, the Muslim Council of Peel called for an immediate review of the use of force by police, particularly during mental-health calls.
The council also wants race-based demographic data on police shootings to be made public.
"A disproportionate number of racialized individuals including Black, Indigenous and Muslim are the victims of police shootings across Canada and right here in Peel Region," the release said.
The council is also demanding an independent public inquiry in the case of Ejaz.
"Given the video evidence and the testimony of family members, Peel police's conduct in this matter was clearly excessive and requires nothing short of an independent inquiry unconnected to the SIU," imam Ibrahim Hindy, the council's acting president, said in the release.
The family told reporters Sunday that they are also calling for a public inquiry into Ejaz's death.
The SIU investigates cases involving police where there has been a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
Six investigators and three forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
Anyone with information or who has witness video is asked to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

We Keep Us Safe: Decriminalize Seattle Statement on Shooting at CHAZ/CHOP
Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone/Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHAZ/CHOP) emerged from struggle and resistance against the Seattle Police Department (SPD) and its East Precinct in defense of Black lives. No single group fought in the streets against cops–instead, many different people from many different belief systems and organizations who all agreed that anti-Black police violence must end struggled together against the SPD and lifted demands for defunding SPD. Following SPD abandoning the East Precinct, thousands of people have helped hold the blocks around the precinct, providing decentralized support to each other. From food tents, to medics, to healing spaces, to political education, CHAZ/CHOP has provided a space to experiment with self-governance and self-determination, without police presence.
Last night’s shooting at CHAZ/CHOP is a tragedy. Our task now is to support the family and community of the person killed, the people injured in the shooting, and the people who witnessed the shooting.
We know that in every neighborhood of our city, violence is a constant. We know that police do not stop violence. We know that violence happens even when the police are present. Less than a year ago, a Black woman was killed on the same block as last night’s shooting, with the East Precinct fully staffed with officers only 200 feet away. The presence of police did not stop that death.
We also know that Seattle police do cause violence, including murdering people like Charleena Lyles, John T. Williams, and many others. Resistance against police violence and calls for a radical shift away from policing is why so many people have engaged with the global and local protests, and with CHAZ/CHOP. Police don’t keep us safe, we keep us safe. Last night’s shooting should redirect us to the task at hand – to defend Black lives by dismantling the Seattle Police Department and investing in real community safety.
We don’t yet know who was responsible for last night’s violence. It could have been carried out by people who know each other, or it could have been carried out by a stranger. We know that most violence occurs between people who know each other, such as family members, romantic partners, and neighbors, and that policing and criminalization are ineffective at preventing or addressing it. We also know that racism and sexism are the causes of enormous violence, and that police violence is a part of that, not a solution. Whatever the cause of last night’s shooting, real solutions do not look like continuing to fund and support the police. If we want to stop violence, we need to resource people and communities in a way this City has never committed to doing. We need people housed, we need people fed, we need healthcare for all, we need childcare for all, and we need real investments in the programs and communities that are developing to replace police responses to violence.

SPD have been caught in so many bold faced over the last few weeks, the only people who still uncritically believe police statements must have had their heads down busy polishing boots. For those interested, this twitter thread provides a quality breakdown of the police propaganda:
Quote:
We now know that the public statement put out by Seattle Police following the shooting at CHOP on Friday night, was mostly fictitious, as revealed by their own bodycam footage. They showed up 10 minutes later than they claim, after the victim had been transported to Harborview.
...
For those not familiar with the case, SFD medics were prevented from coming to the victim until police had cleared the scene. Police claim they were prevented from doing so, but in fact they hadn't even shown up yet.
Read the whole thing here
And here's an interview with one of the street medics present:
