That seems fine to me.
If you ever catch a spore plate when it’s just germinated the growth is clear like that until it thickens up.

Maybe I'm just over thinking it. I'm thinking of transfers from 2 to 8 o'clock on plate 1 and between 4 to 7 o'clock on plate 2. If you have any suggestions for better places for transfer, I'm all ears. This is some of the first agar work I've done in months.
Also, I've always been under the assumption to take a transfer as soon as mold shows up anywhere on a plate. My thinking is that as soon as the mold sporulates, I'd assume everything inside the plate will be covered with spores. However, I've never really tested that theory. Is that actually true? Ideally, I'd like to let these plates grow out another 24 hours, but due to the mold sites on both plates I feel like I should transfer them tonight.

The very first pic I would grab from around 9 myself.
I’ve had mixed results transferring from plates with sporulating mold. Sometimes it seems to be clean and sometimes I’ll get some mold popping up on the new plate a few days later.
I generally try to do it ASAP too though. Just cuz some appeared to be clean on the next plate doesn’t mean there aren’t mold spores hiding in there somewhere.

I have a bacterial jar that I wanted to case and top fruit. For coir how deep should I make the casing? The grains are a little higher on one side if that makes any difference

This tubs look a little off to anyone else Its got 3 pins and no visable knots. Probably my fault for running untested clones lmao. Anything I should do? Increase FAE? I took the filters out of top two holes.
those also look a bit overhydrated to me. look out for trich
Cool. It does look wet. I use 1 quart water to one brick and I'm still getting water gushing out when I squeeze lmao I had to use a bunch of verm to dry it out. I'm just tired of mold it's been a never ending battle since I moved into this house I finally thought I beat it and boom summer hits fruit flys are back and contamination goes back up. It don't matter I won't let it beat me.

if you have the space try using a 12'x6' canvas drop cloth and use a rake to spread it out and help evaporation. I can dry 50lb's of grain in a couple hours with no fans just a couple passes with the rake

I refuse reuse my poly lids fairly often. No real problems. But I make sure to always check if they need replaced or just replace them once they start looking rough. I switched to sfd's so I didn't have to remake poly lids though
Edit: reuse, not refuse

What's people's ideas on the flameless transfer? Transferring from plate to plate with a sterile swab instead of a blade.

Day 5 and no growth yet on my agar plates. No mold either so that's good. These spores are slooooow though. Or maybe I'm just impatient

That would save some time but it seems like you’d burn through swabs.

A swab seems kinda sloppy. I mean I'm sold on taking the smallest bit, even a single strand of mycilium.

What's your all's thought on the sterility of the scalpel handle? When placing a transfer on a blank plate, roughly 1/4" or so of the handle comes over the dish to place it in the middle of the plate. At the start of a session I'll flame the first inch or so of the handle where it meets the blade until it's pretty damn hot. Then flame it 1quickly while flaming the blade red hot. Do y'all think it's an issue to have a little of the handle over the plate like that? It's never caused me issues that I can tell.

Idk I wipe the handle and blade before starting then I pass the end of the handle through the flame before every transfer too. Just real quick on both sides I don't heat it till hot or anything like that. Just a quick flame before heating the blade red hot.

I’ll just wipe it with some iso before I start. If you flame until the handles hot that’s too much. ime/o

That's my thoughts, I flame up my handle. You wouldn't have that with a swab. But you would run through quite a bit, especially when you got several things going at once.
