Hi everyone,
An overly excited 1st timer here. I'm at the fruiting chamber stage and my terrarium with 10 cakes (5GT and 5Maz) got 20mins direct (UK, London) sunlight each day for the past two days. They've been in the chamber nearly 4 full days now. Have I ruined my chances?
any advicem, VERY much appreciated. Thank-you

U have not ruined your chances. However, thats barely any light. I would recommend buying a CFL or LED bulb with 6500K "Full Spectrum" light. Id recommend around 8hrs of light (natural or artifical) per day.

Thanks you guys! Very informative and reassuring. Yes, it has been known for us to see UV over here in the UK; people to this day still talk of those 40 minutes of sunshine as "the Miracle".

Also, if I may, one other question. Do you spray the cakes with water mist or ONLY the sides of the chamber?
thanks

I've never done cakes, but it makes sense to mist your cakes, not the walls. Evaporation is a pinning trigger, and you want evaporation to happen on your cakes not your walls.

I mist the cakes lightly if they have fruits/pins growing and heavily if they dont have fruits/pins.
Also, pour water on your perlite and/or mist the perlite directly with water.

Try for about 12 hours of bright light from fluorescent lamps, with a few minutes of direct sunlight each day. The direct sunlight and plenty of fresh air will generate the best pinsets. RR

Thanks, will invest in a lamp or two.
I took some photos of them yesterday afternoon. Birthed these cakes exactly 7 days ago after a dunk and roll. Everything was fine for the first 48-72 hours where the verm. was starting to become enveloped/covered in a nice white, light fluff. After that and since, the cakes now look like they're covered in a dry, light-gray, pasty toothpaste. It looks like there is nothing growing at all now. Misting regularly and fanning. In London it's been about 75F-82F the last few days. Even after misting/spraying the cakes AND SGFC lots and lots, the cakes still look like matt paint and dried plaster.

are they salvagable? Have i gone desperately wrong somewhere?
Thanks for all the encouragement and advice.
