PC Died. Need Recommendations On New Build.

The motherboard on my pc died and due to its age finding a suitable replacement for a reasonable price is looking unlikely so I figure it’s easier to build a new one. I mostly use it for internet and gaming in my bedroom. For the gaming it only needs to do 1080p, I already have a computer in my living room for 4K gaming and vr so I’m looking to keep it around $500 for the motherboard, processor, ram and graphics card. I can reuse my case, power supply and drives. I may add another $100 to the budget for a NVMe drive but will worry about that later. I haven’t kept up on what’s currently available and could use some recommendations on what would work best within my budget.

I don't really now enough about building my own pc sorry, but I was thinking that I'd probably wouldn't spend too much on each components and just keep it as an internet pc. If you did want to play games on it, I'd suggest getting a half decent cpu and gfx card and that should be about all you really need to spend, then the rest of the parts just get basic/cheaper options based around your cpu & gpu.

Thinkpad T450 (or similar model) for about $250 on eBay. Amazing little machine for the price. Nearly every part is easily replaceable and upgrade-able, even the screen. Great linux support too.

Ryzen 1600 or 2600 are pretty good for their price. You could also go for something like a ryzen 3200g then you'd also get a gpu built in. Not sure what kind of games you play, but 3200g can do a lot of games at 1080p.

if you can afford it, 1600af, with a cheap mobo and an ssd. then spend the bulk of the budget on a gpu.

I ended up getting a i5-9400 with a GTX 1650 super, an Asus Z390-P motherboard and an Intel 512gb NVMe drive. So far no complaints other than wishing I had gotten a different motherboard.

Been a while since I built my PC, but if you're planning to do gaming on it I think you're wise to focus on the GPU and getting an SSD. If you have an extra SATA port on your motherboard I'd look into slapping a cheap HDD on there as well for some extra storage, but that's just me (I tend to use up a lot of storage with pirated movies and old games that don't need SSD load times).
