We had some mild frosts early last week only in shadows.
But, we had a shit ton of tiny hale that looked like snow on Friday. I’m still seeing pockets of ice 4 days later. So... not sure. The subs In my pumpkin patch seem to be doing okay, Slow growing, but they are from chips that an arborist gave me years ago.
We haven’t had any frosts since all this rain started. We’ve had 80ml in the last 7 days so I’m hoping this will Stop the frost and help.
Might go out to my usual saffron milkcap spot if it’s not raining and see. My spot is more wooded and grassy rather than covered in pine needles. Looks like that’s good habitat for the guys in the ACT posting on here.
Let me know how you go, I’ve been looking over the gib and spots around Alexandria reserve But haven’t had any luck so far.
Thanks for letting me know what's been happening weather-wise in your area.
Ok let's stay in touch - I'm happy to help if I can

Not gyms sadly. I don't know what they are but a trusted identifer will have a better opinion. Have a look at the getting started threads to make a proper id request so more people can see it world wide.

This is my first time actually attempting hunting. It's been super cold and rainy in Byron for the past 3 weeks or so. I have a pine/eucalyptus forest within walking distance of where I live. It's part of a swamp and has, within it, ferns and bark and what not but I haven't been able to spot anything.
Does the soil need to dry and warm up for subs to grow or can they still thrive under constant rain and cold conditions? I'll go for another walk soon and check it out again

2 days of 20mm should be better . But honestly best advice is go have a look make sure you’ve read the p.subs guide a few times there is two on here the 2nd one I found was heaps more advanced it should help make the penny drop as where and when to look ... in saying that me and a few others have continually tried our local pine forest after rain with no luck all year. heaps of non actives . So I drove 3.5hours and found 30 actives before the sun came up ! Pm me if you don’t have any luck in a week 👍🏼

I’d go check it out see what species there are atm, and check the day after the rain. Go again a week later . Make sure to check under the ferns! We have a forest near us it never has actives but they have been popping up in parks and gardens lately . Find the 2nd subs guide heaps advanced will help heaps . Sadly it’s a Bit of trial and error but the more calculated you are the easier it should be pm in a week if you have no luck 👍🏼

I’ve only had luck in my own backyard, been wondering if anyone has seen any subs between mittagong - Bowral or moss vale? Been walking around some bush for the last couple a days but I haven’t had any luck.
Also, is it only the beginning of the season for subs for the south or has it been going for a while or are we at the end?
I’ll try the advice of following the creek lines, I’m finding the south side of streets running East west are popping with life but no subs, maybe too high traffic. Also has anyone seen any subs while hunting for saffron milk caps? Just wondering if they share a similar environment? That would help with hunting locations as well.
Yes. Look for trees with mulch around the base or garden beds with mulch/pine needles.

Hey Mr.Kundalini,
Went out to Belanglo to my regular Saffron Milk cap spots. Heaps of slippery Jacks and barely any milk caps. No luck with any subs but saw about 3-4 look alike. I’m going to make a post as I think it’s useful to see what’s not subs. If your planning on coming out and checking other spots I can make you a map of areas that I’ve already checked. Let me know and I’ll PM it to you.
Rain has stopped and my pumpkin patch subs are all popping up like crazy.
So they must be out there somewhere, not sure where the arborist got that mulch he gave me from but he works local but has moved down the coast so can’t ask him.
Here’s a picture of my latest crop.

I went on a quick hunt for subs and came across these specimens.
WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY?
I'm really new to this but have a go at the size. Do subs get that big?
The book says sub grow up to 5cm cap diameter and up to 5mm stem circumference. The biggest cap is 7cm, and the thickest stem is 10mm.
I'm taking a print now. Please help.

NICE!

This is my first year hunting shrooms. I’ve found 2 patches of subs in different locations following a similar formula.
If I was to head to the northern beaches for a hunt I’d be doing the following.
Get onto google maps and switch to the satellite view. Look for a creek that is surrounded by gum or pine trees. Pick the south facing bank. Get your hiking boots on. Take a long umbrella to help carefully move ferns to the side so you can check underneath. Have some herb if you’ve got some. Enjoy nature. Every now and again. Stop, have a breather. Take the time to stop and scan the decaying gum leaves. Look under bracken ferns. If you can’t see bracken ferns, go somewhere else. (Remember I’m in my first year, but in Sydney these seem to be a magnet). If you can find bracken ferns under gum trees with a decent undergrowth of grass, your time is spent wisely here as the moisture level will be higher.
Go for a drive over towards the Ku-ring-gai national park. Check out the boat ramp areas. Have a look around some of the picnic areas along the river. They’ll have grassy areas and maybe ferns.
Good luck.
Have you noticed they can be more potent than pine forest subz…?

How do you guys get rid of bugs and properly dry your shrooms? I picked a bunch the other day and have had them under a fan for 48 hours. Most of the stems are cracker dry but the caps are still a little moist. There are also heaps of little bugs around the shrooms.

I have a food dehydrator that i found on gumtree. Highly recommend one. As for bugs i dont get any in my cultivated ones and haven't found anything since summer. And even those pan cyans didn't have bugs.
I guess it depends on how you will take them. Making teas will be able to strain away any bugs. And you can make it with fresh ones if you had enough.
