My presto has been great, been using it for years. Never had a seal problem and there isn't a pressure gauge just a weight. Nothing bad to say about presto, I wouldn't be afraid to use it on the daily. I was doing 3-4 grain cycles a week for about 4 months and its still as good as it was when I bought it.

instapots do have size issues,
therefore i got 3 for my project.
2 large 1 small.

they do have the advantage of built in heating.
and they do work if run twice 24 hours apart.
they are also excellent for agar.
especially the small one.
being self timing, no more falling asleep stoned while cookers run dry.
and , they are somewhat quieter.

dont get me wrong, instapots are cool,
and ive had great luck with them,
but im an all american girl at heart.

I prolly use my mirro at least once a week.  I could see running AA's if you use it for grains every day.

Do you use any lubrican on the seal or just water?  I kinda suspect some lubricants might degrade it over time.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister.  I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave.  I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent.

I'll agree that the All Americans are superior...but I'm on my 3rd 23 qt Presto...nothing was wrong with the first two..I just got rid of them because I was moving and took a break from the hobby. I never had any issues with my first two Prestos and I used to run the hell out of them.

The manual says to change the gaskets every year...I'd imagine if you are running them multiple times a week you may need to chage them more often...the gaskets are not meant to last 18 months even at normal use.

I've never blown a gauge but I'm sure it's possible and they are cheap to replace.

If you can afford the All American it's the way to go...no doubt. Not having to replace $10-15 gaskets once or twice a year is worth the extra price in the long run.

I've just had such good experiences with Presto that I went that route... I'm still drooling over the All Americans...don't get me wrong...and I will buy one one day.

The Presto will do just fine and last a very very long time if you take care of them and accept that you are going to have to change parts.

I have used a little vegetable oil on the gasket before but not on a regular basis. Once every 6 months or so, I personally think heating them up slowly and letting them gradually heat will make them last longer. I bought two spare gaskets and have never used either of them lol, but its like tires on your vehicle, eventually they gotta be replaced.

I bring mine up in pressure gradually as well.  Helps prevent masons from cracking and pp5 from crushing I think.  Only adds a couple of minutes, and it helps me find a good jiggler rhythm faster once it hits pressure.

my point exactly, running a presto multiple grain loads a day for extended periods of time kills the seals in months.
i suppose one could order seals ahead of time.

IMO greasing seals kills them faster.
the only time ill grease a seal is if i know its cooked and need to get a last load or so out of it for emergency reasons while waiting 4 to 6 working weeks on a new seal in the mail.

id suggest order 3 or 4 seals at once, its not unheard of for a seal to be dead on arrival. not sure presto is absolute on quality control.
i was being generous on the 18 month thing in consideration of the typical growers, to me its far far less than that. but thats not the usual experience for most.

Ok so Presto is out of the 23qt till august. All Americans also sold out everywhere. Ebay has the 23 qt presto for $230 shipped for anyone desperate. Best thing I could find was a 16 qt presto at my local tractor supply.

http://www.pressurecooker-outlet.com/Mirro-Pressure-Canner-22-Quart.htm

They got the mirro 22 for like 105 shipped and presto 23 for like 115 shipped.

My bad, all they got is the mirro 16 for like 95 shipped.  They had the mirro 22 last time i looked.

Glad to have found this thread.. Ive recently rejoined the hobby and message boards after a 3 year break. I also got rid of my PC's trying to lighten the load for a move. I've been searching myself. I did located a presto 23qt on a website called bridery.club <<this is the link>>for 58bux!!
Sounds sketchy i know but i figured maybe i just got lucky and found a killer deal.

However.. im starting to think i'm gonna need to file a dispute as this could/maybe a scam seeing as how i placed the order on the 23rd and just got a email today with a tracking number but its to a tracking server im unformiluar with named "17track.net"  Oh, and they also say that i will be able to check the tracking in a few days as it will not immediate update, lol?

The email also informed me that i should recieve the cooker in 15-25 day. Sounds like they are trying to buy time for some reason? Not sure if there is a time frame i can dispute or for what reason the shipping maybe taking so long as the company claims to be in U.S.
Please let me know if anyone has heard of this company or this tracking server, or if i should go ahead and get started on trying to get my money back.
Also if anyone finds and new leads on a presto23 (i cant afford a AA at this point in my life as much as i would love to have one)
Please keep us updated!

Looks legit as far as I can tell. "17TRACK is an all-in-one global package tracking platform.

17TRACK supports over 500 worldwide carriers, including postal carriers"

It is available on the google app store as well.

Perhaps that's why you had to replace them that often?

Prices on that site are very appealing.  All I could find is that according to alexadata it has 0-traffic and it was mentioned on sever sites that report spam phone call numbers as a "scam website"  I use 17track all the time but that doesn't say whether the tracking number is legit, 17track is just a multi-service tracking application (mostly for asia.)
