The bible is a mixed bag, to be sure. Homophobia, misogyny, mass murder, and endorsement of slavery aside, it's fascinating that hebrew law specifically forbids consumption of animals we now know to be reservoirs for pathogens

Quote:

3Do not eat any detestable thing. 4These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat, 5the deer, the gazelle, the roe deer, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope and the mountain sheep. a 6You may eat any animal that has a divided hoof and that chews the cud. 7However, of those that chew the cud or that have a divided hoof you may not eat the camel, the rabbit or the hyrax. Although they chew the cud, they do not have a divided hoof; they are ceremonially unclean for you. 8The pig is also unclean; although it has a divided hoof, it does not chew the cud. You are not to eat their meat or touch their carcasses.

9Of all the creatures living in the water, you may eat any that has fins and scales. 10But anything that does not have fins and scales you may not eat; for you it is unclean.

11You may eat any clean bird. 12But these you may not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture, 13the red kite, the black kite, any kind of falcon, 14any kind of raven, 15the horned owl, the screech owl, the gull, any kind of hawk, 16the little owl, the great owl, the white owl, 17the desert owl, the osprey, the cormorant, 18the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe and the bat.

19All flying insects are unclean to you; do not eat them. 20But any winged creature that is clean you may eat.

the bolded parts essentially address sources of swine flu, bird flu, and coronaviruses

It would be fascinating to find out that there is actually a scientific rationale for the underlined portion

Well to all the conservatives who are upset they can’t shop at a store without a mask, just go to another store. This is exactly what gay people were told to do.

Regardless, you have absolutely no constitutional right to not wear a mask in a business, and furthermore if the government wants to require you to wear a mask in public, your freedom is not being impinged. It’s no different than requiring someone to wear pants.

This shit pisses me off. Wearing a mask is so easy. It’s not a huge burden. It will help save lives. It will help allow businesses to operate. And we have this fucking asshole signaling to his base that wearing a mask is being “politically correct.”

I sense some cynicism within this post but it highly resonates with me. I don't agree with the cynicism, i agree with it literally.

In Australia, people are not being told to wear face masks but a couple of years ago there was a big push for 'ban the burka' in reference to Muslims. This is a total bullshit as far as i'm concerned. Many people proposed that the government make the burka illegal to wear in certain places.
As far as i'm concerned the rules that apply to the burka should also apply to things like the motorcycle helmet. Currently in banks it is a legal requirement to take off your helmet in a bank but not a burka. this is bullshit! Not the fact that one is accepted but not the other
These requirements should not be law! fobidding wearing a helmet should be store policy. (similarly the same rules should apply to other things covering the face including the burka). Respect the rules and go else where if you disagree, simple. A law imposed upon what one should wear into a venue is a restriction on a person's freedom. That's why it should be a venue policy/rule. If it's a problem, a law is way over the top to impose a restriction like this. If you don't like the rule then go else where!

...just find an irony to the specific comparison, as in Canada Sikhs do not have to legally wear a motorcycle helmet to ride, while everyone else does
because it would interfere with their religious headgarb

in this case, it is a religious exemption that is considered not to endanger anyone but themselves

somewhere, Bodhi's heart rings out with the freedom to ride helmetless

To be fair, judging from that picture, they'd have more cuishoning from their choice of head clothing than they'd get from a generic helmet... Personally I think helmets should be optional for adults (but recommended). I feel similar to seat belt.
I think people unaccountable for themselves eg children should be compulsery to take safety measure at the expense of the driver.

no seatbelt is dangerous to everyone in the car though, the person not wearing a seatbelt flies into someone else

should ask my stepfather if he still has his ground up helmet
he wiped out on the highway and skidded a few hundred meters or so
helmet all ground up; shoulder ripped apart -- had to have a steel plate put in

my only real grey zone with helmets being optional is when it comes to accidents where another driver is at fault
is the biker's death on their hands for hitting them, or does the choice not to wear a helmet remove the driver from risk of being sued by the biker's family or whatever

but in terms of face coverings can agree that the rules should be handled at the level of venue
tho presume that in the particular example provided of the bank, it is in place so that someone who tries to rob the place with a mask receives as many possible charges to achieve maximum penalty
unless the law also normally allows bank customers to wear things like bandanas over their face during non-covid periods

I'm in a no helmet state. Sometimes I see people with no shirt or helmet on and I just think about the amount of bugs and tiny rocks that are splatting against them. I don't even want to think about what people would look like in an accident.

I don't particularly care. As long as someone is truly just risking their own life they can get their kicks however they feel like it imo. The problem is that a lot of reckless idiots don't put just themselves at risk. But as long as that criteria is met then it's no skin off my back.

edit:

On another note, there are some thoughts that PA is undercounting deaths by up to 9% and in NJ - which has better and more up to date data collection supposedly, the figure may be as high as 32%. I don't think that figure is  quite high, because I'm sure that some of those people who died from pneumonia with no post mortem testing can be attributed to a particularly bad flu season, but certainly not all of that. Though I do think PA's number may be higher than 9% as well, but that's more of a gut feeling than anything on my part.

if everyone lived in small communities and didnt go far i wouldnt mind and I think thats mainly why people hate it

but there are no small communities anymore

and thinking about being alone in the middle of nowhere... if a deer jumps out at you and no one is around, its a life or death matter, and id rather find an unconscious person than a cadaver. You are also your brain btw... and more brain dead people means more cost to society.

Its actually a good inverse analogy of how to manage guns and pandemics...

there should be federal zones based on population for these things

There are definitely still small communities, and remote areas, maybe just not in the DC burbs or where-ever it is around there that you're located lol.

That's a fair enough view point though, I certainly don't envy the poor first responders that have to pay an emotional toll for some idiots accomplishments in Darwinish .

I won't even get on a regular bicycle without one myself. I've hit my head too many times from my showjumping days, who knows how many concussions I've got left :uhoh: I used to want a moped or vespa pretty badly, and I kind of still do, but I mostly wanted it to get around Philly in at speeds of less than 40 mph. Even that is a little iffy for me in terms of danger.
