Psilocybe alutacea were originally discovered in Tasmania and described by by Chang, Mills and Gates.
there have been a few photos on PMANZ group of Psilocybe alutacea in Tasmania
Psilocybe tasmaniana, not sure if there are records, but I have never seen a specimen in Tasmania.

Makeroi said: I swear I see mushrooms like the ones pictured here all the time, but I can't be entirely sure. I am an enthusiastic fungi hunter as it is, and go out to photograph them every season... have done for about five years now. But my basic knowledge hasn't helped me find any psilocybe mushrooms.
I think I might just buy some spores online and be done with it. The description given above doesn't spark any locations in my mind!
If you can't be entirely sure take some photos and bring them here to get ID'd. They're definitely out there, just gotta put in some work to find them.

Hey! I’m new here & I’m a mushy virgin. I’m so keen to go on a little hunt around the state & see what I can find. Although as a newbie I’m not 100% confident I know what the best mushies are to look for & where. Advice would be much appreciated! Also, how do I keep & prepare what I find? How much do I consume for a first time etc? So many questions & so much to learn. No hate please, we all start somewhere on our psychedelic journeys. This just happens to be my beginning. Hope someone replies 😂 peace!

Hi all, here are a few pictures of finds from recently. Found a fantastic spot that has just kept on giving. Unforunately the last time I went was extremely scarce compared to a few weeks prior and I suspect the spot may have been found by another fellow hunter. But that's fine, so long as the spot is being used, there'll always be elsewhere. PS, excuse some of the subs having their base still attached, my picking buddy only learnt about cutting them recently and his excitement when finding a sub often leads to him pulling it straight from the ground, but it's getting much better. Happy sub season everyone. Going great so far!

I'm assuming you're after Psilocybe mushrooms given this is the official Tas psilocybe thread? The mushroom you wanna look for is Psilocybe Subaeruginosa and you'll find it all around the state. They love damp areas, but not too damp. You'll find them amongst bracken, rotting logs and fallen eucalyptus leaves.
They really grow quite widely. I've found them at 900m elevation up Mt Wellington and at sea level. Just look for the above conditions and you'll probably find them.
For a first time? Depends what you're trying to achieve. Some microdose on 0.25-0.5g. Some like a mild high for social gatherings at 1-2g. Others like tripping balls on 2-5g. These are dry figures of course but keep in mind everyone is effected differently.

I went for another look today around Fern Tree and found nothing. Though admittedly if was very dry. I saw some other fungi that were neat, though! Definitely not edible lol

Yeah found in about a 50-metre radius. It's difficult finding them early on unless you're lucky, I think; Once you find the first one, you'll find them everywhere. (at least I did)
The best advice I can give would be to target their ideal environment, being damp and shady. I've never been to Ferntree before but from google mapping it, it looks like a pretty good area to look, although, it's pretty close to Hobart and would probably be a popular picking place? might be worth venturing out a bit more. Also, another piece of advice, when I first started searching I always heard that P.subs grow in eucalypt detritus and pine needles etc (which they do), I never was really told they grow on grass (bush grass - you know that spongey stuff wallabies eat?). I've found most subs growing on bush grass, not in eucalypt detritus or pine needles.
The ideal environment I look for is a back-country road with damp/shady areas of bush grass that is also near eucalypts and once you find one there are probably more nearby.
Good luck.

Thank you! Yeah I’m going to do my first sub hunt, dry myself & consume with my partner. I’m wanting to have a spiritual experience. Make a blanket nest, play some music, lower the lighting & enjoy the moment. What would y’all recommend as a first time dose? Should we start with a micro dose & build up over a few months? (It’s not something we’ll be able to do too often as we don’t get many nights off without our children). Should one of us trip while the other acts as a sitter? I’d love to share the experience with my partner but at the same time if anything went wrong.... I’m sure ya’ll get the picture 🤣 I’m also in the top end of the state. It’s been quite wet today. Hoping to head out for a look in some parks, reserves etc in the next few days.

7-10 freshies for a mild experience 15ish for a stronger experience and 20ish if your feeling really daring.

Does anyone here take bottles of spores and spray their favourite spots? Does this actually work and has anyone found it useful?
Would you usually see the fruits of your labour the following year?

did this in a pot outside and it has just started fruting as well as a spot on a bushwalk, yes it does indeed work but takes some time for the subs to consolidate and will fruit the following year

Do you spread the spores in winter or wait for a warmer period in the year?

Going to go for my fourth day hunting in a row this week, I know we haven't had much rain, but I'm worried the season will be over soon with the first frosts starting to come through.
I haven't had much luck this year, only managing to find a few pins here and there, my biggest haul being only about 3 medium shrooms.
Is it just me that's having such bad luck? I cant seem to work out why I cant find any. I'm going to try a different terrain today, less mountainous, so hopefully Ive just been going to far into the bush to find any.

Great find!!
I found a heap of big ones like that in a few spots but now waiting for them to grow again so I'm guessing that was a fresh spot?!
