Anyone ever had to use a fire extinguisher before? Get one ASAP- worth every cent * 2
    #26698223 - 05/26/20 11:19 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

I was chilling posting here with you all,  and then I heard a hollar, right as I heard the hollar I saw a flash of fire out of the corner of my eye and then a "oh fuck" from about 20 feet away. ( we live in close quarters here)

The neighbor close by said "help!" I saw a flash fire I was like WTF and sprung into action and ripped my cheapo fire extinguished off the tree and literally ran towards the flames without even thinking about it( thank goodness I had one)

This was a first for me. the pin ripped right out and I let the fire have it.. with one pump the flames died, as a burst of powder shot at it from about three feet( I was too close) and I heard a hissing sound like gas escaping and I looked down and it was a mini camping propane tank that ( I found out later) ruptured while he was trying to test some old torches and I hit it with the extinguisher again( not needed) The whole area was up in a cloud of dust.

I was like WHAT THE ROYAL EFF WITH CHZ MAN!? He was like " I know" !

Well long story short the entire place is covered with 3 and a half pounds of thankfully non toxic dust ( I mean everything within 20 feet is dusted) and I was super proud to have helped. He was so thankful because his entire place could have burned down I mean the propane tank basically ruptured or something and when it did it threw a fireball onto his chest and his entire chest hairs were singed off. I was like DAAANNGGGG!!!!

Anyways. I immediately went to google and researched what to do next.

And then I immediately went to Amazon and ordered a 4 pack of some fire extinguishers for $100 because these things are worth every penny. It could have been seconds until the rest of that tank and nearby stuff exploded.

OMFG. what a nightmare.

Now, I'm helping him clean up a bit. And chastising him for being so careless testing old tanks and torches!

Anyone ever delt with that?

Fire is so powerful... and scary. I learned a good lesson through another person tonight.

I never had to use my extinguisher, its pretty old, I should get it replaced, one time our oven caught fire, grease built up in the control panel, flames were lapping the wall, I hear my mom let out a shriek, she didnt do anything just started calling for my stepdad, so when I saw what was happening I decided to pull the oven off the wall cause the flames were lapping it, when I did that I saw the plug, so I unplugged the oven and when I unplugged it the flames stopped in like 5 sweconds

Yes...however, there was not one within range. Luckily, there was, however, my favorite expensive, fluffy, giant comforter. Luckily the fire only killed my desk and not the entire house.

my weighted blanket would probably work good for putting out a fire, but it cost me $100

weighted blankets are probably full of plastic that would turn into tar on ur skin

the lil balls would all spill out into the fire, giving it fuel

Lucky you had 1 handy.

I've used fire extinguishers (ABC & H2O) a few times on building demolition jobs.
Workers cutting pipes using oxy/acetylene torches with lazy fire watch persons sometimes
leads to a fire above and especially below the floor they're working on. :firestarter:
I've also fired them off back in HS as a senior prank.

That reminds me, I should probably get one for my car,
not to look cool, just in case I need one.

Seen a guy in lab try to put an oil fire with a water and foam extinguisher... laughed my ass off, then grabbed a 5kg bucket of washed sea sand and snuffed the mess he made.  Had to use a dry chemical extinguisher on activated Platinum Black that wasn't properly quenched before being disposed of.
