Cutting or Picking?
    #26697313 - 05/26/20 03:36 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

What is the best method for harvest? I usually would cut with knife or scissors which would make cleaning them very fast and the whole process much faster. But the aftermath in the monotub always ended up looking like a violent blue crime scene. Not to mention that the next flush seemed to take longer to come and not as often. Now I've been picking them which seems to leave less of a wasteland and saves the stumps. But the cleaning is tedious. I have to clean each one be one. They both have their pros and cons. Could you guys give me some advice or information? What do you do? Mush Love

Always cut at the base picking can cause damage to the mycelium and allow contaminants to get a foot hold.

Its good to give you sub a rest period inbetween flushes.  let it dry out for a little while, dunk, and put back into fruiting. This will simulate a more natural environment so when conitions are right the sub will want to push out a flush while it can resulting in better flushes. Also the first 2 flushes will be your largest and will greatly diminish after that. Many large growers toss a sub after the second flush to make space for a sub that will produce more in the same space/time.

Plus theres always a tad bit a substrate left when picking. Which i wouldnt want there expecially if using manure.
