Refrigeration storage of fresh mushrooms debate
    #26697050 - 05/26/20 01:11 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

I recently flushed two of my cakes, one yesterday and one the day before and stored them in separate Tupperware. My question is since I've recently been exposed to new info stating that there is some debate over whether to store your fresh mushrooms in a paper bag or not; what is your guy's experience with this and how long is their stored shelf life?

I have personally stored mine fresh in Tupperware for up to two weeks with no noticeable effects. I also have tested them in the fridge sitting on paper towels, this made them a little dryer and oxidated which I did not prefer.

Tell me what your thoughts and opinions are and hopefully we can get a good debate going.
Fresh mushrooms stored in fridge with paper bag or sealed plastic

I went with paper bag, thats how I store my edibles. I would rather have a half dried oxidated shroom than a soggy one, but if they were my shrooms I wouldnt do either as I don't like fresh shrooms

Paper bag.

I'd eat them within a week or properly dry them

Plastic container with holes in the top and mushrooms layered between fresh lettuce (was recommended by GeorgeCostanza). Any method that allows for some FAE to reduce rate of rot.

An interesting preservation method I haven't tried yet would be layering shrooms in salt inside a plastic container (drying them) and soaking them in water to pull the salt when ready to consume.

Go to any grocery store or farmers market. Debate settled. A few days in paper. A few more in plastic.

Paper is fine but they will dry out. Plastic is fine but they will get nasty soft and shit.

We keep edibles (chanterelles, etc) in the fridge in a bowl covered loosely with plastic (not sealed) for up to two weeks.  I always dry actives immediately.
