Cactus ID
    #26696165 - 05/26/20 03:19 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

So, I recently just impulse bought this cactus that was sold to me as san pedro. Im still waiting on it to get here. If anyone can tell me anything about it, Or if it is actually san pedro that would be appreciated. Thanks.

Has it been de-spiked? Sure looks like pedro but knowing how many ribs it has and getting a better look at the spikes would help. A top view would be ideal.

Someone told me it's probably not even a real T.pachanoi,  most likely a T.riomizquensis. Im new to active cacti so I think I messed up an bought a weakly active cactus.

Ill post more pics on here when i get it. Might end up returning it.

I for one would rather go hunting for san pedro as it grows all over the show in suburbs.

I for one wouldn't consume it. After getting rid of the spikes and accidentally stepping on one in my bathroom, I got a nasty swollen toe: the fibers going from those thorns go all the way to the core of the cactus, and I dread to think what inflammatory response some may have if ingesting a concoction of the stuff. Glad to say I pricked my toe by that thorn ...

I'm no pro but I hunted it a lot when I was in an area they grew but I'm sure all my spots where ornamentals planted in the 20s and 30s that spread through the canyons. All the same variety I'm guessing. 6 ribs and 3 spikes usually but there's so many phenos now and hybrids. As long as it's a solid 12" I'm sure you'll get a good dose even if it's light on alkaloids.

It looks like a SanPedro of some sort. Hard to tell via this small picture.

As I said in the other thread, it looks like the PC clone due to the upwards pointing areoles, which is rather weak compared to other trichos.

There's only one way to find out how potent it is.

That is PC Pachanoi.  It has alkaloids, but it is weaker than many other San Pedros.
