I prefer 9mm too. Most 9mm pistols will hold 17+ rounds. A 1911 only holds 7. I always liked the idea of having more shots rather than having some more power. 9mm is plenty powerful to drop someone with proper shot placement, especially using good hollowpoint ammo (may or may not be legal in your state).

I actually also believe you would be better off with a shoulderable weapon though, if it's for home defense.  Shotgun... Dude drop 3k and buy the new H&K SP5, the civilian MP5 in semi-auto lol.

If its for home defense, yea you cant beat a good shotgun lol. Just the sound alone of racking the action is enough to make most intruders shit their pants and run away, and aint nobody gonna get back up after taking a 1 oz slug to the torso.

Its called a Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife.

MILSPEC is the version without manufacturer logos. That takes a lil websearching.

If you want one thats just as good, just has a little symbol of the manufacturer, I can highly recommend the M.O.D (Ministry Of Defence)  issue version by J Nowill & Sons, such as sold here.

I have one of those. excellent altar piece.

Exactly.  Some +P federal hollows are gonna get the job done.

Plus, the glock 19 double stack mag you can carry so many rounds.

OP, Glock 19 are simple and not the greatest ergonomics but honestly a good gun and holds a lot of rounds.

Taran Tactical LOVES glock and IMO that says something.

Glocks are ugly as all sin, and feel too "boxy" for me, but youd be hard pressed to find a more reliable gun design. If youre gonna bet your life on a handgun, you cant go wrong with a Glock. Itll go bang everytime you pull the trigger.

Check out hickcox 45 on YouTube. He’s reviewed probably close to every gun you can think of and he does a profoundly awesome job at breaking down each weapon and going over the pros and cons.
You will learn a lot of practical knowledge about any firearm he reviews and it’s relevant information even a new gun purchaser will appreciate.

I really can’t empathize anymore how awesome his channel is without sounding crazy.

He’s amazing

I have a long barrel on my .45 ACP shooting +p, runs like a sewing machine. It is bulky but I am accustomed and I am a large frame guy.

I think that caliber doesnt matter here in your case. What matters is what you are used to and what you become good with.

My advice is to pick one common caliber, for whatever reason you deem fit, and stick to it.

Edit: Brands..
In my opinion:
Ruger & Taurus are the ford escorts. Cheap garbage. They'll work, but god knows for how long. Revolvers are good.

Glocks are like the Toyota of guns, they are affordable and reliable without the bells and whistles, and there are tons of aftermarket parts.
I personally cant get over their square frame.

FN, Sig Sauer, XDM are all good guns that look cooler and feel better than a Glock, but it is hit or miss on dependability. This is the group I hang with. I usually have to do some tweaking and part exchanging until I feel confident with them.

Then you have Kimber. Like a Lamborghini, never had one, but they look cool and I hear nothing but good things.

Ive heard bad things about Kimbers. Never had one myself, but I have a friend whose had a couple, and Ive read tons of negative stuff about them. Lot of quality and reliability issues.

If were doin car metaphors, I guess Kimber is like a Ford Escort thats had the body made to look like a Lambourghini. Looks nice on the outside, but still drives like shit. Ed Browns and Dan Wessons and Wilsons are the real Lambos of the 1911 world

The most hot & horny handgun I can think of, if you have lots of cash to burn, is the FN Five-seveN which shoots a miniature necked magnum bullet at high velocity that impacts like a rifle cartridge and, is very penetrating.

Look at those fucking cartridges! The FN Five-seveN holds 20 of them in the non-extended magazine. There are vest-busting rounds for it but they are outlawed because the cops shat their pants at the capacity of such a gun, that weighs about a pound and a half loaded.

Watch this amazing 5.7mm custom round fuck with ballistics gel:

Did you notice the "if you have lots of cash to burn" part?

Its very expensive at the range but superb in a self defense situation. You can double tap TEN TIMES on a standard magazine still within the hand grip.

As an owner ov a 327 mag, i hear that about round cost if you do'nt reload!  I can shoot 5 different calibers with it, but they're all pretty expensive .

5.7's only real advantage over 9 is armor defeating.  Why would one need that for home/personal defense though?  Well okay, raids, i get it.  Extra capacity, yes, but is there really a huge advantage ov 20 vs 15-17 or so?  Kinda cool but i'd personally like a 7.62x25 if i wanted something like that.

Glocks are USUALLY reliable.  A friend ov mine has had several breakages with his 27, and i think his 23 as well(both 40s&w).  The reliability goes down with the 40/10/45 models it seems.

I do'nt think it's fair to call Ruger and Taurus the Ford Escorts or cheap garbage.  There's not many escorts still on the road and those that do have low mileage since they drop  a valve seat before 150k miles, usually before 120k actually.  Yet there's hordes ov rugers and Taurus handguns still about.  Ruger in particular is known for having the best customer service if something goes wrong(that cant be said for Ford!) and their revolvers have legendary strength.  Some boutique ammo makers have ruger only loads in some calibers actually.  Taurus is known as being hit or miss but there's certainly fans.  I do'nt know off the top ov my head, but there's an era ov Taurus where their build quality was top notch.

Personally my choice for personal defense is a ruger lcr in 327 and for home, the lcr or an ak in 7.62 loaded with 8m3 would be my first go-tos.  Hopefully i'll never get to shoot them inside as i enjoy my hearing!  327 is louder than 357.  What did i choose for my first handgun for defense?  An Uberti 1860 colt army repro!  I still have that around and loaded with .454 ball over 28-30 grains ov FFF black if i need it lol!

I'm the farthest thing in the world from an expert, but everything I've ever read said revolvers are more reliable than auto's. So it won't go bang everytime you pull the trigger. But it probably will unless you never clean it.
