Very cool. Wouldn't even have a clue where to start. It's like some little-known black magic.

I'm not sure. You have to go with dogs. When they open up the air port i will learn.

I read a part in some book about truffles, it might have been All that the rain promises? Or a different book, I can't remember.
Anyway, the book made it sound easier than one might think. Mostly about identifying the correct tree, in the correct biome. Then you can just sorta go for it and try digging around a bit looking for them. I'm pretty sure they don't grow deeper than like 1ft down or so.
You'll definitely spend a few afternoons digging around for no reason at all, but hey, maybe you'd find some
The book also mentioned that dogs can be taught to hunt truffles, but it's a serious endeavour... Dogs are naturally disgusted by the smell of truffles, and so the problem isn't getting them to smell it, but to teach them to actually go towards the smell
Pigs on the other hand, go crazy for truffles and it's supposedly very easy to teach them to hunt for truffles; the main hurdle being to stop the pig from eating the truffles once it finds them

I read that you can look for scratch marks around trees from forest critters trying to dig them up. That or yeah just digging randomly. If I had a pig I'd probably end up eating it.
