I feel you. I have friend ive known for 15 or so years who we have tried to get help, but ge refuses and refuses. I used to use heroin myself. Hes even in the clinic. He started to have overdoses this year. I used to be wreckless, but this guy... it seems like he gives -1 fucks. That shit is brutal. He even snorts xanax/heroin combo, while on methadone. Surely brings in clean pee I assume.

The worst part about it is hes only like 24. His mom sits next to him while hea nodded into his crotch, making sure hes still breathing. Shes a piece of shit for letting this go. Atleast she has narcan... oh, and shes a fucking NURSE!!

sounds like a hard position for mom to be in, but im sure its better than not knowing where her son is or if he is around anyone that will save his life when that time comes..

last summer i lost a friend to OD. we had been good friends for over 15 years too. he was 34 when he passed. he was, for better or worse, a semi-responsible drug abuser and it could have been h laced with fent that killed him.. but some of us speculate it was suicide. my friend was orphaned at a very young age as a result of his father murdering his mother as the family slept in their beds. this led my friend to being bounced around from temporary foster parents and group homes until he was 16 and decided to run away and hide from the "system" until he was 18. i met him through mutual friends and we became very close and lived with each other, off and on, couch surfing for the next few years. as the years passed we spent less and less time together but still remained good friends. I was living in California and invited him to move out there with me and start a new life because thats what i had done a few years ago. he was supposed to come out and give it a try.. then he stopped answering his phone. weeks later the worst had happened. the last time we spoke he told me his dad was getting out of prison after some 25 odd years and he wasnt sure what to feel about that. i know he was angry and sad and also wanted some family in his life. it was very complicated.

i miss him.

Yeah man, opiates are the worst. I was friends with bigworm and that is the only person I have ever known that died from those types of drugs. He actually texted me that afternoon before he passed that night.

That's terrible. I know the feeling but maybe not as much? I don't know, how do you judge the pain of loss of a friend?

Either way, opiates are VERY useful and OK to use for certain very limited reasons, but overall, America ( not sure about other countries) really messed up with it's regulations on opiates.

Theres people sitting on hundreds of millions of dollars who profited from the overdose deaths of corrupt doctors pushing pills.

Really sick stuff. At least the feds indicted hundreds of them.

There are certain people that the opiate receptors have a unique feeling for them. I just go to sleep and feel nauseous thank goodness. I hate them thankfully. It's the worst addiction because it's a physical need as well as mental. A person can just quit coke or speed cold turkey pretty much.

Not really true about coke or speed( you mean meth right?)

Quote:

THat's just my opinion though.

All three of those and adding nicotine as a fourth are some of the most highly addictive substances known to humankind. A person on meth or coke just can't quit. They can not say no to a line in front of them if they are high(almost all the time)

But you're right, opiates "rewire" the brain, so yes there's a whole nother level.

Either way, drugs are bad. I'm glad I don't do them, or hang out with people who do.

There was a short stretch of my life when I was younger when I was around that shit and it's absolutely devastating.

Yeah, I still dabble with coke, but no more speed. What I mean is that a coke or speed withdrawel is not really as bad as an opiate one.

Cocaine is not physically addictive in the full sense of the word.

Duration of Withdrawal
Withdrawal symptoms start within hours of stopping use. However, the worst cravings and withdrawal symptoms appear during the first month of quitting.

The intensity of withdrawal symptoms depends on the amount taken and the frequency of use.

Withdrawal symptoms can last for months after the last dose. Some symptoms can be uncomfortable, making cocaine a difficult drug to quit. Severe depression and suicidal thoughts are the most dangerous side effects of quitting cocaine “cold turkey.”

Meth users can experience organ damage, brain damage, and so on, but it's not a physical need to have to have it to live while getting off of it like an opioid/opiate.

When the drug is smoked, snorted, or injected, the substance enters the brain, where it converts into morphine and binds to the opioid receptors there. As heroin use continues, the neurons in the brain adapt to the heroin exposure and begin to function normally only when the brain receives heroin. If the person doesn’t use the drug, both psychological and physical symptoms manifest.

Addiction doesn’t occur in every person who uses heroin. Certain factors, such as genetics, personality, and environment, determine whether someone becomes addicted and how quickly they become addicted.

Repeated exposure to heroin can lead to both physical and mental addiction to the substance. The initial physical withdrawal symptoms may only last for a week in some cases, but they are often severe and can feel like a severe case of the flu, which can lead to people resuming heroin use just to stop the withdrawal process.

So, quitting speed or coke is less of threat than heroin etc...but still can be excruciating in many ways, but a person doesn't actually physically NEED the coke or speed, they will NEED some form of an opiate to ween off if highly addicted.
