https://untamedscience.com/biology/ecology/mycorrhizae/ | Psilocybe azurescens:

The species' preferred environment ranges from caespitose (growing in tight, separated clusters) to gregarious on deciduous wood-chips
and/or in sandy soils rich in lignicolous (woody) debris. The mushroom has an affinity for coastal dune grasses.

I laid sluggo down early this year and it seems to have kept them at bay thru this ovoid season I started a month before pins and a had very little slug damage.  Shit works good. Here’s a couple pics.  These were started with stembutts last June.  And fed in the Fall.

Man I have the worst slug issue ever. Can I ask how do you apply the sluggo I’m about to order some now. Everywhere I have mycelium outside is always covered in slime from slugs. I put all my spent sub in a pile outside and cover it with wet dirt and whenever I get and fruits popping up they get ate quick. I’m about to be starting several patches outside but the sluggo with be a necessity.

Just spread the pellets around for the month prior to pins.  I hit em every other night.  Made a big difference

Do you put it around your patches or on top. Also I have an incredible amount of worms throughout all my patches. They absolutely love mycelium. I got some baskets though I’m gonna start using those.

Some wild ovoid spawn truckin along nicely in some alder wood/small amount of blackberry stalks(which I dried out since winter and rehydrated), and some moss I added near the bottom and top of the jar.

Over the winter I was gifted a print and like 6 colonized grains of oat of wild Psilocybe cyanescens from the Liverpool area in the UK.  Somehow it made it through the mail alive and has been running through whatever I feed it here.

My coworker recently gave me a trashcan full of turnings from his lathe and plane.  It's all found woods, he says these are mixed hard and soft woods.  I have a few jars of colonized grain, can I just mix it with the sawdust or do I need to pasteurize it first?

It'll need to be outside to fruit, correct?

I'm also going to be putting a large conifer (most likely some kind of arborvitae) hedge along my property line, would it be a good idea to mix some spawn in when I'm planting these trees?

I apologise for the simple questions but there's a lot of conflicting information out there.

Just soak the sawdust well. Yes they need to be outside. Living trees won't help them, but they will like the shade.

I recommend to add calcium carbonate. Helps adjust the pH, they will like it more. But not needed.

I use pet and wildlife safe pellets and I spread them everywhere dose t seem to hurt anything.  I also have worms and I don’t think they are bad for the patch.

I know this probably isn’t the right place for this and I’ll delete it if requested but I have semilanceata sat on agar and I was planning on trying to do an imitate environment grow outdoors and I already know it’s difficult. I had bout some hay mistakenly like two months ago when I brought it home I saw it wasn’t straw and left it outside. Just looked at it today and it smells like shit and is black on the bottom . Anyway since semilamceata grows on decaying grass and hay is grass I’m wondering if I have found a connection here. I also started a box outside with lots of grass and roots and lots of green and brown yard scruff. Wetted it down and covered it to compost for awhile. I’ll end up pasturizing it to us as a sub for outdoor cult. Thank you for the responses on the worm/slug issue

Does anyone have any experience with Aztecorum? I've looked thru most of the pages in this post, and elsewhere on here and the interwebs, not finding too much besides this:

https://www.shroomery.org/12494/Psilocybe-aztecorum
http://www.en.psilosophy.info/species/psilocybe_aztecorum.htm

Since I live at around 6.5k feet, (specimens were found at 11.5k) I thought I'd give it a try. So far I've got it on agar, and have put slices into rye, some soaked mixed hardwood chips, and a combination of those chips and mixed hardwood pellets, manure and rye as nutrient supplement (just winging this jar.) This is what I've got so far, obviously difficulty to take pics thru glass:

Custom mix:

Wood chips:

The rye only jar is too faint still for pictures, but is moving along slowly.

If you have access to the stembutts or mycelium you would have better chances but I would presume that like most other woodlovers cultivating is simple and time consuming

Does anybody know what could be eating these?

Also I took my cyanescens wood chip buffet spawn and layered it with more wood chips in this crate with cardboard on bottom and sides and covered it. My question is should I leave it covered till fall or ilyncover it when it’s fully colonized and maintain moisture. I puffed diatomatious earth all over it to keep off bugs.(the outside)

Guys,

This is my first time growing cyanescens.  I recently mixed cyan spawn with alder wood chips (and a thin saw dust "casing layer)  in an 18 gallon, uncovered outdoor tub with  drainage.  The total depth of the chips/alder is 3 inches. The tub receives about 4 hours of direct sunlight on the rare days that the sun shines in San Francisco.

Obviously, the top layer of chips and saw dust dry out first.  But I don't know the moisture content of the chips underneath.

When should I water the tub?  Should I ensure that the chips always appear to be wet?  Or should I water when the top layer of chips is dry?  What signs am I looking for to tell me when to water?

Please advise.

Thanks,

Tom
