Substrate extremely slow
    #26694125 - 05/25/20 03:23 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hello, i have an issue as i believe i mixed up my substrate incorrectly. There seems to be no sign of contamination at all so far. But the issue is i believe my substrate mix compacted too much after layering in with the grain spawn. Its been about 3 weeks and there is white mycelium growing throughout but its more "strands" (excuse my terminology plz) and its not colonizing the clumps of compacted dirt because it cant penetrate it sadly. Ill try to post a pic later but it will probably be poor quality. The lid is still on and has not been removed at all. But i was wondering if there was any remedy for such a thing lol. this was the only place to seek such knowledge. Which obviously i need to do more of in this subject to reach success. ( This will not happen next time!. ) But i really appreciate any and all help. I didnt know if it would be a good idea to add a casing layer or if it needed a more dramatic approach. Or just a lot more time. Once again thank you friends!

If you eat nuts  Like all mixed nuts stuff like that, save them shells and
nd mix them with your substrate. That way they given almost useless nutes for myc to crawl searchin, and aid in eration at the same time time

Just make sure they're not salted or roasted

What kind of dirt is your mycelium not colonizing? Also open that lid as long as you don't have any unpasteurized poo in your bulk sub mixture.

Pasturized compost and verm mix is the substrate. Mixed with whole rice graim spawn.

You can open that tub and take a picture. While it might take a bit longer for myc to colonize some stuff, this thing can definitely penetrate anything. Your grain is way more compact than any of your bulk substrate and myc goes inside it easily.

Thank you for the reply. I appreciate the info. I will attempt to take a picture soon and get it up. Feeling a little more hopeful but worried that its just slow bc of the contamination thats yet to show its face.
