Ape spores on agar?

I recently decided to try some ape and so far I'm quite confused. For starters, upon receiving them I noticed the spores were almost translucent. Not like it was less spores but they are actually clear. So from there I put them on some agar and with a few days they started growing too my surprise, but to more confusion they look pink. The myc itself looks normal but right where the spores are is little pink spots. Anyone have this before or is it contam?

I'm not an expert or anything but after looking through the contam sticky before posting my post. I saw discoloration of pink was a mold of sorts.

I saw a few threads on it but nothing with pics to really compare to.

Ape spores are clear so that sounds right, I don’t know about the pink though unless it has something to do with the food coloring. Is it truly pink or could it be the agar? I don’t think myc would eat up the food coloring yet though really.
are the other spots of mycelium doing the same pink thing?

Well the clear part is good to know. I searched on here quite a bit and couldn't find anything about that lol. As for the pink, it's only right where the spores are and nowhere else. I doubt it's the food coloring as like you said it typically takes longer for the myc to eat it and it's just today only been a week since inoc. I took two transfers from it yesterday so well see if the pink follows

Looks like a mold starting. Pink molds can do that.

Damn. I hope it's not the whole syringe. I shot them through an injection port like I always do and did with the other 4 variety I started, and the ape is the only one like that.

Looks whispy but is pretty uniform. Take some transfers and see how it grows out. Then you will know.

That's what I did! Transferred three days ago, the myc has recovered and now that there's not so much going on I can see the pink followed and looks like a bacteria. I knew the agar looked a little weird on top of the spore plate and figured it was bacteria but this is the first time I've seen it pink.

So here's a pic of the transfer in case anyone comes across the same problem. I'm definitely still a novice but to me it looks like a bacteria.

Try the good ol' agar sandwich trick to get away from the bacteria.

Haven't tried a Sammy yet. Usually I'll just go to a green tea plate and that's worked well so far.
