Cold shock or not?

Hey everyone!
I've got two grow kits going right now. More than two weeks after dunking and putting them in the fridge, one of them is starting to pin. The other one, however, isn't showing too much signs of progress.
Should I wait some more days or should I cold shock it?
I've read contradictory advice on this subject. Some people say dunking + cold shocking works in this situation (although I don't think this kit needs a dunk, because it isn't dry at all) and other people say the cold stalls the mycelium
Thanks for your help

Cold shocking doesn't do much to cubes except slow them down for however long you put them in the fridge.

cold shocking is about as good of an idea as buyin kits
as in that neither one usually produces fruits

Thank you! Is there something else I could try?

I know grow kits are not the best option. However, I've got decent results in the past with grow kits, one of them producing a quite big yield, but that's not the debate here. Do you have any advice on what I could do with this stalled kit?

This pic is from some days ago, but I don't see much change so here it goes:

And this is the kit that's starting to produce some really tiny pins (I untaped the holes I had poked so it starts getting more FAE):

Thank you!

You mean the new kits?
Could be, but I don't see any mold on the colonized mycelium and no weird smells. They have been almost like that for 2 weeks. If it was mold I think it would spread quicker, right?

like these areas here look kinda suspect. like they are gnna mold over and even the blobs look more like bacterial blobbing than they do mycelium to me. but the pics arent the greatest quality either and im also looking at them on a phone so idk manđ€·đŒ its a grow kit so if u get anything at all that u can harvest and actually trip off of then id consider yourself lucky cuz most kits dont produce anything at all

Yep that also looked suspect to me but it looks like that almost 20 days later. It would have grown if it was mold, right?

Here is the thing. Grow kits are sold with a heavy vermiculite layer. Those are gonna take a while. There also sold with shit instructions, I'm calling out you M_gro... If it fails you have to buy another kit. So they are almost built with a 50% failure rate in mind. More successful grows =less returning customers. Cause once you got fruits. You do need grow kits.
I'm just saying. Time is money. You can buy a grow kit and roll the dice, or you can send some time doing research and learn how to do it without the kit.

That makes sense about the vermiculite.
Yeah, I've already researched some teks, mainly shoeboxes and PF tek and wanted to do shoeboxes this round but with the lockdown it was cheaper to get these kits.
Do you think it would be a good idea to spawn these kits to bulk with some coir and putting them in a shoebox?
Thank you!

The stalled kit finally started pinning, although on the sides.
Some pictures from today. Should I put it in a bigger tub so that it has more space to fruit?

I would leave them be for now. I don't know where you got it but if there is a heating pad don't use it.

Ok, but won't they rot from being choked?
No heating pad, it's just the picture that's a bit weird lol
It's currently 24-25ÂșC in the room so more suited for AC than a heating mat
Thank you!

What is your fruiting chamber situation? They need Fresh air at this stage. You have fruiting on both kits. Looks like your gonna have mushrooms pushing up through the Vermiculite instead of the Mycelium fully colonizing the vermiculite.

Right now it's the small plastic tub inside a grow bag.
The grow bag has a built in filter for gas exchange but I added about 12 small holes on each bag on the two wider sides. One row of 6 holes almost at substrate level on one of the wider sides of the bag and the other row higher on the bag on the opposite side.
I'm also fanning a couple of times each day. I just started introducing more fresh air on the McKennai kit because I didn't see it was already fruiting on the sides.

Cool. Might put a single layer of Micropore tape on the bottom holes to hold in the moisture. Leave the too holes uncovered for now and hold back on the fanning. The holes should give you enough FAE for now.
