Other types of magic mushrooms

I was wondering, are there any other mushrooms that have psychedellic effects other than the two types everybody already knows about (Amanita Muscaria and those which contain psilocybe)? I know that psilocybe mushrooms and amanita mushrooms are very different, the chemicals which make you trip are different and the trips are completely different. They are not even related. I was wondering, are there others? Thanks for the help - matt

As far as I know there are no other ones _discovered_, but I would not doubt that others exist. It just isn't worth the risk of trying new fungi to see for ourselves

There are 13 families that contian psilocine/psilocybine in them comprising more thatn 190 speices.
There are other magic shrooms. The Claviceps used to manufacture LSD.
Cordyceps species and four speices of Heimela and 6 species of Rusula which contain chemicals other than psilocine psilocybine,.
You can find out about those in my paper with james Arthur p[osted completely here at the shroomery oin the archives. Somewhere int he Ethnobotanical Gardens forum.

Gymnopolis sp. have shown similar compounds to kavalactones in addition to tryptamines like (I don't recall if it is psilocin or psilocybin which predominates in the Gyms. I have had marked sedation using Ganoderma sp. tea and eating the common Portobello(possibly tryptophan?). IMHO we have only begun to discover the more esoteric psychoactive and medicinal fungi. Joshua's discovery of the unusual Psilocybe last year is an example. I am anxiously awaiting for some local hunter to post pics of the Oregon cubensis found in the mid-Willamette valley irrigated pastures. I am sure that MJ has many new finds awaiting him in Thailand and it is possible if not probable someone will discover a new psychoactive genus which does not contain psilocybin. Peele's Lepiota was purported to contain active compounds as yet unidentified. Also with Claviceps as an example of possibilty it is not out of the question there may be higher fungi which produce or could be induced to produce ergoline compounds like LSA. That is why the Shroomery is cutting edge in psychoactive mycology. WR

the Claviceps and ERGOT seem to be more of a 'pest-to-plant' fungi than an actual mushroom. I wonder which other actual mushrooms, well, mess you up? hehe

you would be wise not to eat ergot, unless you don't like you limbs

There are two types of ergotism poisoning. 1). gangranous, 2). convulsive.
Once also knonw as ASt. Anthony's Fire. I posted many images and pictorials in the search engines here if you want to know more about it. Limbs fall off, you burn like fire. Hallucinate and die.
Thats was ergot does to you. IT is also used in obstetics to cause aborts in animals and huimans and also for stopping post partum hemoraging. many mothers in the middle ages and before up until the end of the 19th century would die after childbirth becasue no one knew how to stop the bleeding.
Than in the `late 1930s, Albert Hofman had just conducted hius 25th test on ergot and accidently discovered LSD, although it was years later when he learned what he had extrated.

Go into the search i engines with my name and maybe you can find the posts usuallu y in other drugs forum or ethnobtanical garden.
Mj. Probably the former.
There are also 6 boletes and four species of Rusulla form the new Guinea Highlands which are semi psychoactive and used by the nonda and 'nongamp tribal groups of New Guinea.
They contain stearic acids.
