Moving to NZ to be a Carpenter

So this is a bit of a rambling question for the Kiwis out there or anyone who has applicable knowledge. Obviously this is not a pressing matter since things will be shut down for a while but I have been wanting to move back overseas (I grew up an expat). I've been living in the US for about 10 years now and its just not for me. From research I've done I think that NZ is where I want to try living because from what I hear people there are very kind and I like the thought of a young woman leading the country on a platform of empathy. Also clearly a lot of nature and good mushrooms. Plus I don't need to learn another language and it seems like work Visa requirements are not exceedingly difficult to meet for a US Citizen.
I'm trying to prepare myself as best as I can so that when things reopen I can get started on this. According to the NZ immigration website their processing offices are already reopened so maybe it will be sooner than later.
I am in construction and have been doing various trades for a total of about 6 years. I enjoy carpentry the most but I have no trade certifications. Does anyone have any insight into the carpentry trade in NZ? Specifically I'd like to know if I can get a work Visa and a job without certification. I don't mind starting as an apprentice and working my way up by any means.
Any suggestions/questions/comments welcome! I hope you are all staying safe and healthy out there.

I don't think most countries will open their boarders to the USA for a year man. The rest of the world is trying to contract trace, isolate, and eliminate the virus. There are huge states in the USA where people are saying "It's not that bad, fuck it"
I'm not judging which way is right or wrong, but the two philosophies are incompatible and tourism and immigration won't come back for a while.

Kiwis live on arguably the best country in the world and i say that as an Australian. They leave often though but they don't leave for nothing; they leave for the money and i'm sure you're no different. the Corona virus has impacted the economy worldwide. You're not going to find salvation anywhere beyond where you're currently are. Now is not the time to make drastic situations like this.

Yeah I’m not under any illusions that I can make this happen for at least another two years I’m just trying to get prepared now so that I’m ahead of the game when immigration becomes possible again. My main concern is that I’m self employed and uncertified in my trade so if I need certification or some sort of record of my abilities to prove I’m competent as a carpenter I’d like to start that ASAP so that by the time immigration starts again I’ll already have said certification or record of abilities.
Though my desire to leave the US is not COVID related I have a lot of respect for how they have handled their response in NZ. I’m in this for the long game I’m not just panicked by our awful COVID response and trying to flee the country if that makes any difference.
