Bro i don’t know about the council (highly doubt it) but I swear every patch I’ve checked has signs of mycelium being removed. I’ll see pins one day and the next day the whole chunk of bark that was pinning has been removed.
What the fuck is up with that? Is this the new normal for shrooming? Nab some myc before it can fruit and sporulate, before anyone else has a chance to find them? Poor form IMO
That isn't council doing that. It is the infamous Black Birds... They love thrashing around mushrooms/mycelium... Very annoying.
There are people who also transplant patches to bring back home.

Blackbirds... That makes a lot of sense. It's alright, this time I've decided to take some spores and have a crack at cultivation.

Definitely Cold enough in the AK dude. . . Last year I had Subs fruiting at 13° nights. . . Currently its easily dropping below 8°. . . My couple of patches are all clearly too dry. . .

hey fungalmongrel I found this too! went picking today and 2 spots where I picked 30-40 on monday and left heaps of small guys had been stripped out. I'm sure there would have been at least some that hadn't grown or new ones pushing through, but it was stripped clean. At one spot there was clear evidence of shovel loads of wood chip being taken right in the only place in that garden bed where subs were growing. I get that people want there own private spots.... but man.. I'm trying this https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14587696 1 1/2 weeks between cardboard and I have growth. Went and bought some bags of wood chip today so will start stage 2 soon. Hopefully next year something will come of it.

Hey Sam. . .
Be weary of cardboard. . . Great to keep myc alive when transporting home. . . It will however quickly starve your myc to death.
Cardboard helps keep things moist, yet is non-nutritious. . . Myc will run on it, and move quite fast (until it stops suddenly) as it is looking for food, which cardboard isn't. . .
You are much much more likely to have success with fermented woodchip. . . Soaked for 1-2 weeks, then drained. . .
Even fresh hardwood chip will do. . . Poplar is plentiful and works well. . . Soak for a few hours, drain, add stem butts or similar, keep in a container with little airflow. . . Myc will jump off in a few days. . .

Thanks for the advice Bobbit. Yesterday i bought pine bark chip which is what the mushrooms I found were growing on. Today it goes in a big bag to soak for 48 hrs after which I'll try to transfer my cardboard into it. If this doesn't work out I'll look into fermented wood chip (never heard of that). In any case since finding a mushroom growing under my lemon tree 2 weeks ago I've had an a strange amount of success. I don't believe in destiny whoo whoo but it has been as if they are drawing me to them. I have 2 friends who are interested in taking mushrooms to help deal with some "inner demons", (and maybe have a nice time). Since they expressed interest I've found mushrooms growing in both their gardens. Just a handful popping up but, weird. I've also managed to find enough to allow all 3 of us to do gradually increasing doses so we can find our feet without jumping off the deep end.. So while I'm certainly not absolutely confident of success with my cardboard efforts I feel a certain optimism considering the short turn of events which has lead me to this point.

Its a long thread with some real good info. . . Official woodlovers thread Much goodness on woodlovers (our outdoors species) we tend to have P.subaeruginosa or similar. . . I used cardboard a heap till I realsied what was going on. . . Useful for transport, moisture retention and physical/moisture barriers, not so for food 🙂

FYI, for cubensis knowledge, limit your searches to 5 years young. . . Old info is mostly debunkt.
For woodlovers. . . We are still learning/debunking. . . That thread is a really good start. . .
As for local finds. . . Nada 😔

i'm starting to have a feeling climate change may be starting to affect the mushroom season in regions that are already pretty warm/dry.

Yep. Although, I'm still holding on to the hope that we're just stuck in an unusual weather pattern. I have no sources to back that up, I'm just hoping. lol

Are you actually finding big patches or just a lot of small patches? I've been finding the odd one here and there but all patches are totally barren and I haven't found more than two at a single location so far in Whangarei this season.

Hey Dostoevsky... I knew there were other hunters in the area - wasn't sure if any would be active on this site... So initially I found just a few and they were in mine and a friends garden. That got me on the hunt and after a decent amount of searching (probably much of it in unlikely spots) I found a good spot which I picked maybe about 20 - 30. They weren't concentrated in one spot but spread throughout that particular area seeming to prefer a particular type of shrub to grow under or near. The next day I found another site where there were perhaps 100 all growing in about a 1m area, a proper patch I guess. I took say 30-40 of the fully grown ones and returned about a week later and got another 30-40 and left probably the same amount still coming through. Checked a few days later and it was stripped of everything. Same at the first spot which was more spread out, though there I did find a few but only with a thorough search. I have found a few other spots with just a couple growing. I fear I've been brought tumbling back down to earth after my initial good luck.

Damn dude that sucks, have you still got 0 wild patches producing?
I guess this season really does suck.
I had 20+ patches around my local suburbs in fruiting around this time last year. And I was yielding multiple dry ounces from each location.
This time this year I only have 2 patches in fruiting, and they both produce pitiful pathetic yields. I only get a few grams dry here and there from my two lame patches.
I would not have even picked an ounce dry total this year yet... I'm used to bulk hauling and this sucks dick.
I need to go to some different suburbs and check new parks and walkways I have never been to before. Fuck this shit. I need to stop being lazy and start checking out different woodchip beds that I have never checked out before.
It's almost June god damn it. Fuck this 2020 season. In my 7 years of mushroom collecting I have never had such a skimp season. Fuck you mushroom gods you stingy cunts. Put it on already.
My only fruits this season have been 6 from my garden. . .
No movement whatsoever from my wild patches. . .
Maybe this week of rain will help. . .

Some photos from a few weeks back.. most of the ones growing amongst grass were very small, much smaller than regular subs I would usually find. Thoughts?

And a few more photos taken the other day...

Coz we just loove roundup.. 🙄🥴

I also thought this mushroom looked particularly different with its white cap! It was about 1cm in diameter.

I reckon small is a result of not enough water. . . No expert here just speculation (and frustration at the lack of precipitation. . .
That white one needs printing (or cloning)
