These are some good questions.
I’d be interested in the response.
I found my first subs yesterday in a pine forest that is 2 hours drive from my place.
There were loads of amanita’s around, but all I was able to find were 5 tiny subs.

Then went to my pumpkin patch and found these??

If anyone could let me know that would be awesome

Hello, hope you don't mind me dropping in here....
I'm currently in Tassie and looking to move to Dorrigo, NSW (when the COVIDs allow!) I'm a noob, and I've just gotten myself familiar with ID'ing subs down here, and wondering what I can expect to find up in Dorrigo and what the season is?
I've done a ton of reading on this site, but obviously NSW is a big place with many different climates, so I'm wondering if anyone has any specific knowledge local to the Dorrigo/Bellingen area on what species to look out for (so I can start to familiarise myself with them), and how long the season lasts?
Thanks in advance I'm loving this forum, so much wonderful info

Greetings folks
I'm on Sydney's Northern Beaches & have returned from each foraging mission empty handed this year
Hoping one of you would be kind enough to PM me some clues for general area to look. I'm NOT expecting GPS coordinates - just enough clues to increase my chances.
Would be deeply grateful!

I think you do have some Sativa.
I'd love to find some alutacea. Funny thing. I literally seen your pic on the fb site like 10min before seeing it here too.. What area did you find these ones?

Sydney South.
Think I might go back and take a few more photos on the morning.
It’s hard to get time away from the kids so thanks for IDing these. I’d love to see them still there. they’re in a pretty high traffic area so I covered them with a couple of gum leaves to try and keep them safe for a few more days.

Left in situ. No spore print.

Most specimens are Protostropharia semiglobata. One of the smaller specimens with striate cap margins is a candidate for P.alutacea but since it's out of focus I'm not certain. I often find the two species growing alongside one another so this is a good indication you're searching the right habitat for P.alutacea. P.alutacea will not have a slimy, fluted stipe but rather a mottled wood grain texture reminiscent of P.subaeruginosa.
See the stipe of P.alutacea
and Protostropharia semiglobata left, P.alutacea right

Cool man. A little too far for me to drive.
Haha i know how it is. Took the wife and kids to the Watagins today. No subs and wet whinging kids.
So i would be trusting bobs id. I'm only going off other peoples photos. But it sounds promising that they are around.
And shags im fucking jealous man. Should have went around newy instead of the mountains today.

Yeah mate,
Stoked to find a new little patch today. I’ve spent a shite load of time up the Watagans looking for subs for donuts. Heaps of other fungi, but not them.

It was on the way out so i pulled over and picked one. Too heavy rain to grab more..

Coastal areas are subjected to higher rainfall but also higher temperatures. The places to look have rainfall and a cold front. Does that condition apply to the coast? I suspect the humidity on the coast will be too low and the temperature too high but I have never looked there. I would recommend higher altitudes inland. High altitudes can get high rainfall and are subjected to colder conditions, making them ideal conditions.

Thanks CrystalKnight
I do appreciate the reply
There is probably more humidity & rainfall in the coastal region of Sydney, though probably not cold enough.
Are you familiar with Australian growing conditions?
