Cold frames...

We have a dog. Has anyone ever tried using a cold frame to grow outdoors?

Sounds like a good idea.
I never have used an actual cold frame but have grown tons of stuff over a few decades both indoors and out.

It should work as long as you provide the environment like you would a tub, i.e. moisture, humidity, temps, indirect sunlight, FAE, substrate, etc. May have to watch for algae growth and wipe down the inside once in a whiile.

I wonder if rhodents fancy grain substrate, if they do one should probably elevate frame or otherwise rat/mole/miceproof it if possible.

:whathesaid:

Or don't use grain.

I wonder how Azures, Cyans and Allenii would fare in cold frames.

Okay so I'm planning to seal the bottom of this cold frame with a piece of polycarbonate plastic. Then the inside I will sterilize with Lysol. And then I will do layers of sawdust and hardwood chips and some alder chips. I found some azurescens but they're expensive. Once I have this all ready to go can I squirt them right onto the wood chips or do I need to inoculate and grow out the mycelium in a spawn bag or something like that and then break it up and spread it on to the chips? Also the chips, should I bake them in the oven to sterilize them or boil them in a pot or something? I'm going to search up some YouTube videos and see what I can find. I'm pretty excited.

You could treat an outdoor patch like a giant mono

What do you mean? And how does one do that? Are there any tutorial videos that you know of that show how to do that?
