Looking for good books to read, i prefer nonfiction * 1
    #26689623 - 05/23/20 03:49 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hi everyone! I hope you're doing well in these weird times.

I am doing pretty well, but my work contract is ending and I'm pretty sure I'm fucked for money in the coming months. Luckily I have a bunch of acid and i just got my bike fixed so I should be okay.

I am going to start biking to the woods on a semiregular basis to read books, but I don't have any good books in mind. It would be cool if you could suggest some cool books for me to read while I smoke weed in a tent and maybe cook on a fire.

Previous books I've read that I like are:

- Any Terence Mckenna. You can't beat this.
- Philip K Dicks Valis series
- I'm into religious stuff, maybe the Bible is a good place to start... but I find that Abrahamic religion is kind of stupid, but still worth investigation
- I'm really interested in cults, so anything about that would be interesting
- I have heard a lot of people talk about a William Burroughs but never actually read any, maybe thats good?
- I'm very interested in indigenous history, I'd like some suggestions about that, especially canadian history
- Maybe some educational books about sustainable living would be cool
- I want to know the truth about reality, so anything that can illuminate me on that would be beneficial.

I'm going to run out of money pretty soon so I'd like to buy some books now before it's too late. It's funny to think i was making good money and now I'm going to make none. It's kind of cool though, fuck money. I just want to bike around and read books. Food is everywhere if you have a fishing rod and some know how.

Thanks guys! I hope life is going great for you all

You might like Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. It's fiction(considering it's narrated by a Gorilla) but it's mostly philosophical and it's one of those books I definitely think most people would get something out of. Most focused on ethics and sustainability.

Prometheus Rising by RAW is pretty good. Fictions by Jorge Luis Borges is another good one. I'm reading Ovid's Metamorphoses now, it's great

God talks with arjuna, a commentary on the bhagavad gita by yogananda.
Its basicly a modern interpretation of the gita which is the science of the human/psychafelic mind prob one of the best books ive ever read.

Autobiography of a yogi ,  also a good read if you havnt read it .

Advanced yoga practises, easy lessons in ecstatic living ,  If your into yoga other then the stretching aspect  its got some good info in it
, pretty much easy to digest step by step for kundalini yoga

.

I don’t think any book is gonna tell you the truth about reality, more like someone’s version of it. I went down that hole before and found out no one really knows in the end.

That said I recommend The Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagan. I wish I could have met him while he was still alive. Also while it’s not a book I’d recommend The Pale Blue Dot video, should be floating around YouTube or something.

UGH! Then what was the point of any of this? -O.K KO

Thanks a lot guys!

I knew this was a good place to come for some suggestions! I know that no one has the answer, but all we can do is arm ourselves with different perspectives. DMT made me see some shit that I want to try and get some context for. Serious paradigm shifting shit. I feel like even an opinion is worth looking into.

William S. Burroughs

Most of his books are completely postmodern, non linear, wildly psychedelic, very homosexual but not in a way that limited who would want to read them. The most famous of this genre is Naked Lunch, but also The Cities of the Red Night, Nova Express, The Wild Boys and many others.

He did some books that were more conventional straight narrative. My favorites of this group were Junkie and Blade Runner (nothing to do with the movie which was based on Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep"). Burrough's Blade Runner fit the title much more accurately. In the future with socialized medicine, private medicine is outlawed, but the wealthy still want to use private doctors. To avoid detection the doctors have boys carry their medical bags. They are the blade runners.
