Panaeolus Cinctulus?
    #26688970 - 05/22/20 07:29 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Habitat:
we found these in the Horse Manure spreading area in Missouri. Its been raining the past few days.

Gills:
Grey-ish , Brownish? Some of them were black. Most of the ones in the photos were grey-ish/brownish.

Stem:
brownish/white-ish. extremely thin and pretty small/short.

Cap:
circular, pretty brownish color pattern, almost like a pancake.

Spore print color:
Black

Bruising:
None

Other information:
When I dried them out the gills were all black.

Please view this full gallery below. Idk why the photos are coming out so huge so i only uploaded 2 of them.

Yeah, Those Don't Look To Be Pans, Some Psathyrella Can Look Similar To A Panaeolus Sp, But The Stem Will Be Different.

The Stems Of Psathyrella Are Whitish & Fragile, Darkening After Being Picked.

I’m pretty sure I have some Pan cincts, would anyone here be able to idenitify if so?

I researched Psathyrella corrugis for a while last night, and I actually thought so too

Dung being the growing substrate is the only thing that threw me off.

Although Psathyrella can grow on dung too.

Also, i don't think you guys arent viewing my entire photos and comparing them to P. Corrugis, they dont even look alike. These look closer to P. Candolleana however the spore print on those are purple, not jet black.

There are many mushrooms with black spore prints... I would wait patiently for a TI to chime in but I can tell you with certainty that those are a Psathyrella family mushroom and nothing else.

You can believe what you want but I carefully reviewed your photos
That spore print really doesn’t look entirely black to me either.
Take a print on foil/white paper, mark it with a sharpie next to your print and take a photo in direct natural lighting and you will see the difference.

The splitting fragile stems as said before as the fragile cap is TEXTBOOK psathyrella.

They are so fragile they barely survive the walk to the car most of the time

Thank you very much for the advice. I'll use foil and paper next time. I'm going back out there to try and search for more. Also will Pan Cinc have stronger cap and stems?

They will be much more substantial. The stems are striated to some degree and have white sheathing at the base which sometimes stains blue. There should be small rhizomorphs still hanging on at the base. They bend and don’t really split like that.

The cap will be hygrophanous and will crack in the dry weather but won’t break so easily. They still break but not as fragile as Psathyrella.

The gills when you look very close will be mottled and look like “camo” print on the full face. There will also be very fine white white gill edge.

You should be good with that info
