The legalities of an international death match
    #26689017 - 05/22/20 07:52 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

So in theory, if lets say a multi-millionaire or even a billionaire decides he wants to spend his entire wealth on buying a cruise ship and starting some sort of death match? Like, offer a huge reward, get everybody to sign the proper papers, sail the cruise ship out into international waters, or into Somalia or whatever and get like 200 people to duke it out on the ship. Winner take all. Install thousands of cameras all over the ship, stash weapons, alcohol and drugs across the interior and exterior.

Obviously loved ones could always say they were coerced into the death match but I cant imagine this being anything more than a one time event, like say if the dude who funded it had no intentions of living much longer past the death match, like what really could anyone do?

When you are that rich legality doesn't matter.

I'm not sure why you wouldn't assume this shit doesn't happen already. You don't need a fucking boat, you just need two guys and a bunch of friends to gamble with.

The Saudis killed a guy in their embassy. That's pretty fucking brazen. It's way less of a stretch to have two commoners fight to the death.

remembered a post regarding this yesterday or the day before on imgur

apparently, this mentality is what brought about Finland having laws that fine people based on their income
Quote:

These models are credited with ensuring proportionality in sentencing, improving the effectiveness of fines as a sanction, and even allowing fines to serve as an alternative to incarceration. They can also lead to startling results, such as a €54,000 speeding ticket assessed to a Finnish businessman.

https://lawreview.uchicago.edu/publication/constitutionality-income-based-fines#

but yeah, with enough money to pay for covering things up, you are accurate with regards to the legality not actually mattering

Without reading the thread....just go far enough out into the water and forbid recording devices perhaps even using enti surveillance tech before they are allowed in the space and maybe a short period before they are allowed back on land

Not to be a downer but you'll need a sovereign nation to pull that off

That's why you need to pay for cover up
false names and bank accounts to make the purchases of the boats, cameras, weapons, etc. untraceable
person hosting does not have to die; they need to be unknown to the public eye after the event
so that the world news organizations run the sensationalism for them

realistically, the person taking the most risk is the winner
no way they are winning enough money to buy their way out of being tagged for what they were caught doing on film

OR be a sovereign nation that the UN can keep their greedy eyes out of. Not a good example but like NK cuz nobody tells them what to do

Fuck I hadn't even thought of that. Damn. I guess that puts a huge plot hole in my plan because how else do you get somebody to fight to the death with hundreds of other people.

Im just trying to think of a way to bring gladiator games back, lord knows our modern world is ready for such savage entertainment.

I mean your nation can do virtually anything if you keep the UN out of your biz. I think we should hang everyone who ever was in the UN because it undermines the way the earth should work. I'd rather the earth's whole nuclear stockpile be unloaded than have the UN have a say in a single fucking thing

Yeah the UN is basically just a platform for the US to boss everyone else around and Veto or ignore things they don't like

but the only thing keeping North Korea safe is that China is such a big international player and influential in the UN
if China were out of the way, or agreed with the US perceptions of North Korea, there would be UN forces all over the penninsula

Yeah, Ahab is right on this one.

I spent the night thinking about it and really the best way to do it would be quietly. No world display, but rather just keep it a private event for me and my other sadistic rich people.

it's all a thought experiment for my own entertainment but I was thinking, how long before we as a race publicly bring back death sports? We already have extreme sports where people are at high risk of dying, but nothing where the risk of dying is higher than the risk of surviving.

It sounds like the plot of SEVERAL movies I've seen before.

If people wanna do it I say go nuts, I'll be somewhere far away from it all.

The US can prosecute crimes that are committed by US citizens or against US citizens regardless of where they occur. Many other countries probaly do the same. There are also international treaties that apply to crimes that occur in international waters, which allow nations to prosecute perpetrators.
