Came across this fairly big guy today on my walk. So far signs point to Psilocybe subaeruginosa, although the yellow/tobacco like colour on the tear of the stipe has thrown me.. Have I ID'd this incorrectly? Could it perhaps be another species? Also of interest is why that yellow occurs? Any one encounter this colouration before?
Seen that yellow colouration plenty before, I’m not entirely sure what causes it. Nothing to worry about though.. I think it might have something to do with the substrate. As I usually see it occur on partially dry subs growing from thick and generally fresh wood chip garden beds.
