Just bought a french press and 1kg of a variety of roasted coffee beans. What dose should I start with? 1teasp?? I Googled that but nothing came up.

Like a proper handful of beans. Then adjust to taste.

I tend to put about 5 tablespoons in my french press. It holds a liter of water and I get about 3 cups of coffee from it. Its just coffee so you can adjust the dose according to your taste.
Start with about a tablespoon per cup and go from there.

I heard scientist that work with animals develope allergies to the animals they work with, and ones that work with cockroaches get also allergies to pre-ground coffee

That's super weird! I'm allergic to cockroaches but I hope I'm not allergic to coffee since I basically need it to function. Every time I go off it my productivity plummets (even if I just lower intake) and I'm super unmotivated.

Here's my attempt at a light roast

Very hard to get an even, light-roast in a pan, on a stovetop.
I only tried it because my brother in law likes a light roast and I wanted him to try this fresh brew.

Those beans look great. Like you said they look wet from the oils which is what you want. I find a sign of quality coffee is the oils on the bean and that you see on the surface of your coffee before adding any cream or milk. Dark roast all the way too, the caffeine is secondary to the flavor of coffee. The bold flavor, the aroma while brewing is more uplifting to the senses. Honestly if there was coffee beans with naturally no caffeine in them I'd drink that instead providing it tasted good. Every decaf I've had tastes gross.

That's a real consistent roast there jailbird!
I'm sticking to my pre bought beans for now. I got a kg as a gift and I've got like a quarter k of the decent stuff in the cuppboard.

Thanks, Ninja Cat

It's a learning process for sure. That was the last of my green beans. Gonna have to start drinking OTC coffee once these are all gone

I will probably see about getting some more beans when I get paid again. Now that I know much more about how to roast them, I shouldn't waste as many lol
