What helps the come down?

Recently did a 4g trip, had some intense visuals, not a terrible trip but I had some confusion at parts, like 4 hours in I just felt exhausted mentally and physically, not that I did anything physical on my trip other than a 10 minute walk, I felt like my brain wasn’t filtering any information I could hear everything and couldn’t ignore it and I could see every detail it seemed even when not focusing on something it just seemed very exhausting and annoying even being in a quite room I wanted the trip to end , felt like crap at the end lol. Side note I had 2 alcoholic drinks before hand to help the come up, but I drank a few water bottles so I don’t think I was dehydrated and i couldn’t eat during the trip but ate before hand.
Seen a lot of people say smoke weed but I also read that can bring you back into the trip a bit so I didn’t bother. I’m not huge into smoking pot anyways im a lightweight lol, I also have clonazepam which is supposed to be in the benzo class as a backup in case I get a panic trip but I didn’t want to waste that back up on me being annoyed , any thoughts?

The mental and physical exhaustion is likely due to the trip over-working your brain. Try some fruit or juice to give you some glucose (i.e., sugar).

I find the come down exhausting too. Fighting to get to sleep while the mushroom is still in your head just makes it worse. I find it helps to eat a little and watch a movie then try and sleep 2 hours later. Mellow music is good too.

This, I don't even bother trying to sleep until several hours after the come down. I always have a few movies ready to choose from if I feel too tired to do anything else until I can sleep. Youtube recommendation diving can be fun too.

I actually don't use other drugs to combat a bad trip, DeckardCain.

I had a really bad trip a couple of decades back that I couldn't get out of, even though I really wanted it over, and this was about 45 minutes in, before the peak. Plan for that horrible experience that will lie to you and tell you that you're helpless, and you should just curl up into a ball in a fetal position, and hope the psychedelic gods show mercy on you. Fuck that. Any time you wanted to, you could have gotten out of that terrible experience, just like I could have decades ago. Before I trip, I have certain rituals. I make sure I have about a half dozen escape routes, including, believe it or not, quick, prepared, easy to eat food any time I might want it during the trip. I make sure my bicycle has full air in the tires, the chain is nice and lubed, and I do a safety check. I make sure my PC, sound systems, video game consoles are ready to fire up should I want the distraction of gaming. I make sure that the space around my free weights is ready to go at a second's notice.

If I have a bad trip, I always give the shrooms or the LSA the chance to beat me up a little, if that's what they want to do. But at some point, just like any good friend in my life, the shrooms misbehave, treat me badly, take the criticism to a point where it becomes badgering, even after I agreed to think about it, or even take action. If whatever psychedelic entity is giving me the trip starts to get overbearing or bitchy, and I want out, I take control away from the drug. I give the drug a chance to be nice and stop being such a fucking bitch, but my tolerance has limits. In the end, its my body, my mind, my life, and my soul. I made a decision a very long time ago that I would never cede complete dominance and control over me to a drug. Not a drug of any kind. So when I need to jettison the trip, maybe I'll grab some free weights and start lifting. Not any weight or exercises that could be dangerous while tripping, of course. Maybe I'll get on my bicycle and ride around, and if the trip resists my pushing it way into the background, well then that's too damned bad. I'll just start pedaling faster and faster until the ride and the exertion is all I'm thinking about. Maybe I'll eat something. Maybe I will boot up one of my PS4/XBone/PC games and mess around in my favorite sandbox. Note: For me, if I'm tripping and feel a need to do some gaming, it absolutely has to be a sandbox game! lol

Seriously, next time you trip, forget the supportive drugs, at least in my opinion. Just make sure to plan a crapload of escape routes in case you find yourself in dire need of an immediate exit strategy.

Oh and for what its worth? You were nowhere near as tired as you thought you were. Well, I can't really say that for sure, but I can base it on my many experiences. If you feel exhaustion combined with an intractably bad trip, don't believe it. You're brain is probably what's exhausted. So try doing things that require your attention. Earthly, grounding things; life affirming things like eating.

If I need to throw in the towel I take a benzo. Preferably Xanax since it’s fast acting. I don’t like Xanax for recreational use, the only benzo I’ve found to be in the realm of recreational is Valium/diazepam, but in terms of ending a trip, Xanax Always worked well. The only other benzos I’ve tried is klonopin, Ativan, and temazepam, but I’ve never tried any of these for getting to sleep after tripping, but I would still bet Xanax is the quickest.

Then, I put on a tv show I’ve seen multiple times so my brain doesn’t get invested in the story. Junk food shows like a network sitcom while laying in bed with lights off works best for me.
I’m always having sleep problems without psychedelics, so whether it’s mushrooms or lsd or even mdma, I can’t sleep for hours after the trip is over. Especially hard if you’re still up when the sun starts rising. Gah that’s a shitty feeling...

Try with more natural but also effective way : l-tryptofan and Gaba with a lot of fresh juice :smile: plus a relax herbs

So whatever type of benzo you take to stop a trip, how long does it actually take? I’ve heard it takes upwards of 30 minutes to work, so if that is the case, my question is; what is the point? Just ride it out?

I don't have much advice/suggestions . I've never needed anything to "help" with the comedown from mushrooms, I always feel amazing during the comedown.

All I can suggest is take a hot shower, eat a good hearty meal, and go to sleep. If you're tired and exhausted, then simmer down with a shower and good food and try to go to sleep.

If you're still too stimulated to relax, then go on a walk or do some sort of physical activity.

I'd say smoke some weed/hash, but it sounds like that's not something you do. Maybe have a beer or two :shrug: .



I can't relate in anyway....I almost always feel absolutely amazing during the comedown/end of a trip. Especially with mushrooms specifically! At the end of a mushroom trip I pretty much always feel like a million bucks and on top of the world...Super clear headed, sharp/enhanced cognition, tons of physical energy & stamina, I feel very tuned/sharpened/enhanced. I feel "open" and connected to myself and others...Feel like my "truest self"....The comedown & afterglow from mushrooms is one of the best feelings ever for me and many other people that work with psychedelics feel the same way. If there was one "state of mind/consciousness" that I could permanently be in it would be how I feel during the comedown/afterglow of a mushroom trip.

...It is usually the contrary for me, they tend to leave me feeling totally refreshed & recharged & new.





How much experience do you have with mushrooms & other psychedelics? Do you always experience an unpleasant comedown anytime you trip?

What do you do while "tripping"?

Once you're well past the point of 'oh this is still coming/getting stronger' give it an hour or two and try a couple of tokes at most. If it doesn't help -leave it.

Other than that, easy to eat food like a bit of fruit or smoothie helps.

A whiskey on the rocks on the comedown is always nice too. Obviously benzos are the main way to bring yourself down, you just need to pick the right dose to reduce it to where you want to be rather than killing it entirely (or making no difference at all).

Some great suggestions above too. Hot shower is always a winner to make me feel better/more human no matter what substance i've taken.

Not a huge amount of experience with it compared to many here, like 4 times. First time was like 15 years ago, didn’t notice anything on the come down same with the second time the third was a really good trip like pure euphoria never felt better before the comedown then was just me missing how good it felt lol, but the last time with 4g kicked my ass a bit,
What we did was wait for the peak and go for a walk which was short because everyone was outside and things were getting weird , from then on we just went back home listened to music looked at stuff then watched a movie (the wrong missy on Netflix which was horrible but the visuals for some reason were making it interesting) then I put on family guy and I started just getting annoyed by family guy, and got more and more annoyed and exhausted so we went to lay in bed and rode it out for the next hour or 2.
I couldn’t eat during the trip at all, my gf tried to give me a chip and when I ate like the corner of it it tasted gross and I felt like I was going to be sick .
Maybe next time I’ll set some more suitable movies to watch or try a sandbox game

Yeah, I'm with openmind - comedown and afterglow is one of the best parts of excellent tripping.

What OP might want to look at is are the trips themselves spectacular?  If not and you don't grow yer own think about it.  You will never experience anything as amazing as what great homegrown mushrooms (or picked from the wild) can do without actually going there.

I find the shroom comedown pleasant. I would say dont drink with shrooms. Its not a good combo in my experience. Go shrooms only and your comedown will be easier.

I like to chill with a little weed or eat some fresh foods.

I’m with LC and P.S., the comedown, especially after an intense trip, is the most magical and chilled feeling I ever get.

If you want to talk bad come downs, talk something less “organic” and more “chemical” like MDMA, and now you’re talking bad comedown. Like for a week :cookiemonster:

I look forward to hours 5 and 6; wifey comes in, I’ll have a joint, something to eat, a glass of red wine, and Pink Floyd. The only potential downside to this routine is my wife has never tripped. She doesn’t understand why I have no interest in her shopping trip at that stage :grin:
