Anyone ever go on a long distance hike on shrooms?

Throwing the idea out there because I'm curious. Has anybody ever gone on a long distance hike while on shrooms?
I've been thinking about trying it. A low enough dose to maintain composure and get to the destination obviously. Solo 23 mile trek, 8-10 hours maybe, stomping through nature, headset on, music playing, little shrooms to take the whole experience to the next level. Trip should be done by the time I make it to the end of the trail. I'd be in a well trafficked area so no potential for getting lost.
TBH, I've only ever done shrooms in the comfort of my own home. The first time was nice, but I've gotten claustrophobic feelings ever since then. Never experienced the big outdoors with them. I think being outside and moving would relax me.

I have hiked quite a bit after eating some, and I find it hard to not stop and observe things, especially up close. I have never had a real destination that I needed to get to, more just enjoy myself on the trail. I think I personally would find it difficult to keep moving for 10 straight hours while on them. My plan would be to hike sober bober, and then enjoy the night with them around a fire or something.

That's a good point, I'd definitely be tempted to stop and stare. I can always try to trip out without a destination in mind, that'd be a better idea. I do want to act sooner than later because I don't like the idea of doing this during summer when its really hot. Kinda missed the chance to do it when everything was cool and green just a few weeks ago here.
I did part of the trail I'm referring to and after hiking for maybe 3 or 4 hours I'll sometime get that tingling sensation like, man, this would be so dope on shrooms, but by the time I have that realization, I have no shrooms and probably would be approaching the end of the trail/day.

OP, yes. 1 time with just shorts and shoes on. Another time I was decked out and had a backpack with some stuff & headphones with Instrumental music playing. They were both equally wonderful. However the former experience gave me some much needed time and space to reflect on my life at the time and work through some things that had been impacting my life negatively, that I just couldn’t seem to figure out how to deal with skillfully. But during that hiking trip, the way to handle the things in my life that were bothering me became stupidly clear. I must have had a good 10 minute laugh after the fact, Over how blind I had been to not see it in the first place. Don’t know if it was more the hike or the fungi. A mix of both I’d guess.
Afterwards, I integrated that insight into my daily life and the problems that I thought I had, became non-problems. They might not have even been actual problems in the first place - it felt very special for a brief moment, but it actually was super ordinary. The trip helped me come out of whatever I was tripping about in my normal life.
The problem had to do with how and why I was becoming detrimentally anxious at work, due to having an enormous amount of responsibility on my plate that year.
All I had to do was simply make the proper changes in how I met with the actual presented circumstances, conditions, and situations and responded appropriately. That became plain and clear & adapting to it became spontaneous and natural. Like I flipped a switch. Simple. Easy. Thank god.
Best part is, once I had known the underlying mechanisms of that current iteration of my psychic life clearly enough, I no longer had to trip to understand it, or know it like I did when tripping. The message and teaching and what is learned remains readily accessible in the mind afterwards, impressed upon memory so as to become long term. Guess you could say it stuck.
Pretty sure that can happen with a lot of people when they trip.

The Blind Ass,
Thank you for sharing your introspection. I relate strongly with your words because I've been feeling for a long time now that I've been in an odd head space in relationship to my work and personal life. I enjoy my long distance hikes but they tend to be empty minded and meditative in nature. As I mentioned, there's been many journeys I have been on where I've thought that I was in the proper mental state to engage in a mushroom trip and see where that additional input would take me. That is to say, I'm less interested in a recreational enhancement to my hike, I'm seeking a meditative and introspective enhancement supporting a substantial period of time of having a clear and clean mind while being physically engaged and connected with nature.
Maintaining pace is what I assume will be the biggest hurdle, but even that isn't a big deal. So what if I take a few more hours. I do wish it were about 10 degrees cooler and with cloud cover right now though. I think the sky and clouds would have made for an especially good experience.

If have an accomplished heart & mind - and your discernment is honed well - you don’t even necessarily have to take a large dose. You can, but Just enough is fine too. Thats my opinion, but what you do is up to you to decide - obviously. As long as the environment is relatively safe, and you don’t have to worry about bears etc. You will know what’s right for you. Right dose, is the one that helps encourage an appropriate perspective.
If you do end up going, I’d recommend you pack as light as possible, with only the essentials. Depending on where your going, (And whenever your last meal is) bringing a compact food bar or a few and something hydrating to drink etc may be appropriate, also bringing headphones and your phone with easy access to choice music - put on airplane mode for less distraction etc etc May be in order.
Find out what your Goldilocks zone is for what you are comfortable carrying on your person.

I rode my motorcycle out to an extremely remote location via logging roads. I was determined to find one of the tallest fir trees in the world and I planned on camping for 4 days.
I at 9 dried grams alone in the rainforest. I came very close to communicating with the giant tree but at that point I don't think I could have communicated with a human.
I do a lot of long distance hiking but I would never want to hike while on shrooms. I would much prefer to do a big hike then trip on the beach or somewhere interesting.
Sorry to derail OP but I just stay high while I hike and prefer to trip when I'm all settled in and can stay put and enjoy nature.

The reports of a fellow shroomerite named TheScientificMethod are spectacular to read:

Personally I have taken small doses of cubes while hiking in the complete nowhere in the north of Sweden. Was really great, but it's difficult to be fully at ease and not worry about sudden changes in weather, wild animals, etc...

I finished my hike yesterday. I have yet to study the route I did to find out exactly how far I went and how much elevation change there was. I'm guessing 30 miles and 3000 ft net elevation change (ups and downs, not continuous). Took about 10 hours.
I did a quick shroomery search for threshold dosing of Psilocybe cyanescens, and found an article where a guy said he experienced effects at 0.3g. I initially weighed out 0.5g and then second guessed myself, cause if a guy reported effect at 0.3, I didn't want to get in over my head when I'm trying to focus on the trail.
I started the hike from my house and about 4-5 miles in, I hit my first rest stop on the trail. I used the John, I grabbed some more water, had lunch, and put 0.15g of the dry shrooms under my tongue. I resumed the walk, holding onto the shrooms for about 45 minutes. I didn't notice any effects so I chewed them up and swallowed them. About 10 miles into the hike, I hit the next trail head. I didn't stop to take another break, but I put the second 0.15g of shrooms under my tongue and walked about a mile before chewing and swallowing them.
It was at this point that I was by a lake, and walking in the shade of trees, and the temperature dropped quite a bit. Prior I had been walking in open fields under the beating sun. The first 10 miles were very hot and taking on me, so my cognition had dropped dramatically due to fatigue as my body's energy was being expended on moving forward, not on thinking. It was truly a meditative state. My mind completely clear of noise, and just taking in the sensory input from the forest. I must have experience placebo or threshold effects because while I couldnt tell if the mushrooms were doing anything, I did feel a heightened sense of well being.
By the time I finished the trail on the lake and crossed over to the next trail, probably 15 miles in, I no longer could tell if I were experiencing any effects. I definitely realized I should have brought that 0.5g like I originally weighed out, as I think I would have felt the tingling sensation from them without full blown dissociation. Really, I could have done 1g, but my tolerance is low at the moment, and I was entering unfamiliar territory so I wasn't sure what to expect even at such a low dose of 0.3g.
Also at the 15 mile mark, I started on a trail I had never been before so was unsure exactly how to path it. Also at this time, I ran out of water and the battery on my cellphone/navigation died. I knew from having studied the route generally where to go so I didn't let this get me down. After the lake trail, I was standing at the base of a 500 ft hill wide in the open and exposed to the sun. I started climbing and step after step I felt more and more exhausted, my heart racing, my head developing a headache. When I tried for a second to sit down, the blood pressure caused a spike of pain in my head so I immediately stood back up and continued walking. It was where I truly was beginning to be tested. My feet and legs started to hurt. But I knew I could make it. The view surrounding me was so beautiful but I couldn't stop to appreciate it.
I eventually made it to the top of the ridge and I saw a view unlike I've never seen before. One of the widest fields of view I've seen. It was the exact point to stand to see both the east and west side of the region at the same time. It was really cool. Also apparent was that I was entering an urban area as there were dozens of casual hikers/walkers. Previously I saw next to nobody the whole time.
I continued on to about the 20 mile mark. I was really dehydrated at that point. I found a park map with a "you are here" sticker on it which was an absolute relief since my navigation was down. It had a pin indicating the nearest drinking water spot, and I immediately started heading in that direction.
As I proceeded through this leg of the trail, the temperature dropped another 10 degrees and I was in the shade of a forest again. It was extremely satisfying to my body as I could finally cool down. I came across a fork in the road. I asked some people "where is Point of Interest" and the said to the left. From my memory of the map, that wasn't my recollection of where the water was, which would have been to the right. I headed to the right, and some people called out, "its not too far to the Point of Interest!" and I basically said, "I'll be OK if I don't see the point of interest but I won't be okay if I don't get some water right now". She said that she thought it would have been shutdown due to COVID... I said bye and proceeded to the water spot. Unsurprisingly, they didn't shutdown the water fountain but it did have yellow caution tape all around it, lol. I let it run for a while for the hot water to escape the pipes, and then filled my bottle. I chugged a good deal of water pretty fast. Obviously this was a mistake as I had some nausea immediately afterward.
I walked back over to the Point of Interest and found the woman sitting there. I called out to her and said "I made it!". She asked me if I was able to get my water, and I told her I did. I stopped for only maybe 5-10 seconds to enjoy the point of interest before I knew I had to go to get to the end of my trail. since I was in unfamiliar territory and my mental picture of the map had faded, I asked the woman, how to go in the general direction of the end of my trail. She said, "you can't get there from here, its really far away" and I told her "from my perspective I'm really close as I had just walked 20 miles to get to this point!". She mentioned itd be a long walk but I said I was in for it. She was concerned for me because she was wondering how I was going to get back. It was about 6 pm and the sun was falling on the horizon (which by the way was tremendously beautiful from the ridge of the hill--i wouldn't have changed my time of arrival at all). I told her I was going to take public transportation back when I got to the end of my trail.
She basically said to go down the hill in a general direction to get to the next spot. I had an idea in my mind of where I was so I proceeded. I felt so much better now that I was hydrated. The nausea from overdrinking declined gradually. I was no longer in the nature park, but was now in a (very expensive) neighborhood. I had been in this neighborhood before and while walking through it and down the hill, I was admiring the homes and their beautiful architecture, and the view that they had was just awestriking. I always wished to live there, but would need an extra $2-3m dollars! The weather was so nice. The setting sun was so beautiful. The view was fantastic. The general neighborhood was very pleasant. All in all, it was a great moment. The journey up to this point was totally worth it, and I felt elation that I had come so far.
I continued down the hill and entered a familiar street, with shops and restaurants. I had been here before too. I stopped at a 7-11 to grab a drink. I drank it and continued on. I booted up my phone and had about 5 seconds to check my map. It showed my current position and I was fucking blown away to see that I had walked down the hill in entirely the wrong direction. I realized I should have never asked that women where to go and trusted my instincts. She said the end of my trail was far away but my gut instinct at the time was calling her bluff, as I thought I was really close. In actuality, I was really close! Now I was probably 5 miles away from the end of the trail, and not just off course, but way off schedule. I turned 90 degrees and proceeded in the proper direction. I was quite frustrated at this point, but not letting it get me down. I had screwed up. I let my battery die on my phone. It was entirely my fault. Prior to it dieing, I checked the battery monitor and found out there were a bunch of apps running in the background that were wrecking battery life. Had I optimized my battery usage from the start I probably would have been fine. Better yet, I should have brought my charging brick. Stupid. I know.
Anyway, I walk through the city and its nighttime now. Probably 8:30. I'm following train tracks which I know take me toward the end of my trail. There is a walking path adjacent to them, which was nice to relieve me of my navigation concerns. I get to the hub of the city where the public transportation to get back home is, and I see the end of my trail in the distance. I HAVE TO finish the trail properly, so I proceed towards it. I make it to the end. I was so happy to have made it. Sure there were mistakes, made along the way, but I was safe all along and never afraid. I walk away from the end of the trail back to the transit hub feeling so relieved.
By the time i make it back to the transit hub it was 10 pm. I walk up to the gate to the train. Closed. I look at the adjacent bus stop that goes to the connecting train, the bus is there and starts driving away. I realize I'm now in trouble. I missed both of my plans to get back home. I'm frustrated as fuck but stay calm and realize priority number 1 is to charge my phone. I walk through the city looking for another 7-11 or corner store that might sell a charger. I walk and walk and don't see anything for a long while. I came across a CVS and they closed at 10! Fuck! I kept going down the road and come across a Walgreens. The parking lot was totally empty so I was worried. I approached the front and the doors opened. The sign said they close at midnight. I was elated. I ask the guy up front where the chargers are, and he points. The chargers at Walgreens are $30... ridiculous. I buy a charger and ask him if there's a place I can charge for a minute in the store and he says no, like I'm out of luck. I'm thinking "thanks, dickhead." I continue into the store, open the charger box and walk around looking for a receptacle. Unsurprisingly, the pillars at the end of the aisles where they put endcaps/refrigerators had a receptacle. I was so fucking happy. I start charging my phone, which was doing fast charging mode. I was gaining a percent or two (from zero) every minute which was awesome! I boot my phone up, let it get to about 5% then I call an Uber. A guy accepted my ride within a minute and he headed my way. The guy at the front who sold me the charger walked by to check me out, and he looked at me with a confused and irritated face. I told him I'll be out of there in a minite. In that moment I was conflicted. I needed my phone to charge to a safe level. I needed to meet the Uber, and i wanted to return the overpriced charger, haha. I tried to time it all just right but I couldn't get the charger in the box the way it was originally packaged, so I hung onto it. I had about 12% charge which was good enough for me.
I hopped into the Uber and we took off. It was so relieving to be on the way home. I was checking out the driver and was quite irked because he appeared to be really tired and his eyes were hardly open. I kept an eye on him the whole time but basically put my faith into him to not kill us both. About a 30 minute drive later we show up to my house. I hop out of the car and tell the driver--"Hey, that Walgreens you picked me up from. I walked there. From right here." He laughed and said "Damn, you must be in good shape!". I replied, "maybe so, but I know I'm going to sleep well tonight".
I go inside, bang on my roommates door to let them know I'm alive, take a shower, lay on my bed and pass out nearly immediately.
It's morning the next day as I write this, and my legs are very sore. My feet feel destroyed, and I have a couple fat blisters. My body aches all over, and I got a bit more sun than I thought I would have being that I reapplied sunscreen 3 times.
I learned a lot from this journey, most of which are common sense things hikers should know (like bring more water, don't get lost, and bring a charger to keep your navigation online, lol). Challenges aside, it was a beautiful day and I experience a great deal of peace. I found out which nature areas I liked the most, which coincidentally were some of the trails I already hike the most, but I did discover a few more that I also liked a ton. I also discovered that the park I ultimately ended on near the urban area was the worst of them all by far. It made me appreciate being on the rural side which has some of the rare few remaining areas of unspoiled nature left in our modern age.
I also learned to take more mushrooms next time!

Nice trip report, Californian. Sounds like you got it in that day lol. I actually can't wait m'self to get more time shroom-hiking this year. Going in a week/week and a half for my first of the year (generally do about 100 miles in ~72hrs and going to be doing some microdosing and threshold dosing to see if it helps with endurance and regulating my breathing. I tend to go SO hard when I dose in that range at home doing manual labor, so I think it's time to put it through the paces and learn something. Suuuuper exccited. Hiking under midnight sun high in mountains + shrooms= I would not do a dose higher than a gram hiking here due to decreased awareness for bears/moose/shit to fall over and seriouly injure yourself in a place where no one will come help you; but I would go for 1.5 or 2 of "regular cubes" on most of the hikes I've done on the E coast. I am always peakbagging when I go out (part of the reason I hike each year here) so also curious to see what microdosing has to offer when navigating more vertical terrain/loose rock/handholds. Being outsde and shrooms are peanut butter and jelly to begin with. I've NEVER had a bad trip on mush outdoors. Not having enough water sucks. I always map out water sources on G Maps and carry a Sawyer straw. When you go for looooong hikes or want to go on multi-day trips, you can't carry enough water. I start out with a bottle of water and that's the bottle I screw the Sawyer filter onto for the rest of the trip. Just drink right out of it with water form any creek or lake. Smart of you to go with an incrimental approach your first time out like you did. Now you know your parameters. That's something many people don't seem to get hiking in general. This thread makes me wonder how many people are out there hiking on shrooms right now...

Californian, thanks for checking back in!
It’s good that you were cautious with the dose, because you were in an area you weren’t intimately familiar with, and you ran out of sustenance & your cell phone died. Next time you’ll be more prepared because now you know better.
I’ve walked miles and miles through the woods or in a nature reserve multiple times on varying doses of fungi over the years : 3g , .5g , .7g, 1g, 1.5g, and 3.3g .
I knew the area I was in very well each time & that there were no predatory animals, was familiar how far and where the nearest rest stop, water, & little store was all by memory (also where I could charge a phone and the hours of operation @ aforementioned places!) etc etc.
Nowadays I keep the macro dose range trips for when I’m at my own place where set & setting & all the variables are relatively controllable according to my own preference & needs.
You’d be surprised, in terms of catharsis, insight & learning what you need to know about yourself & one’s daily life - a microdose works as well as a macrodose, but it takes some practice and skill. It didn’t use to be like that for me, I used to need a macrodose for anything to get through my thick head. (Hence my username) . That changed after some few years of tripping, and I very much like the place mushrooms have in my life today

I've done it a few times, I don't actually enjoy walking/hiking while peaking though, so usually find somewhere beautiful to chill then dose. If I'm tripping my route is usually half of what I walk usually.
I love tripping in nature but find I can only do this when taking time off work, going camping, then dosing on a thursday or monday when most other people are at work, otherwise there's just too many people around at nature spots to really zone out into the trip away from distractions. It's always been this way in my life but I still find it so weird how there's nowhere near where I live to just go out and be isolated in nature for a day.

I'm a novice tripper. I prefer to trip in nature. Today we went kayaking on 1 to 3 class rapids. Was my best kayaking trip every. Felt I could understand the currents so well. Took 2 grams prepared with "Lemon Tek." Ground 2 grams cracker dry mushrooms with a coffee grinder, covered that with an ounce or so of bottled lemon juice, microwaved that for 15 seconds and allowed that to cool for 15 minutes. Tossed that back in one gulp. Could taste nothing but lemon.

Thanks for sharing your trip report Californian.
I can second what Sporecap said: the trip reports by TheScientificMethod are awesome. I read some of those months ago... he's a good storyteller.
There's something about an adventure, combined with the magical ingredient of mushrooms. Just need to have some more of my own.
The one time I've hiked while 'tripping' was on 1.2 grams dried Liberty Caps, walking up to a hilltop in English moorland. I felt completely in control, but from time to time, I had some nice 'perspective flattening' in the visual field. I also noticed I was much more likely to say hi to other people on the path.
Most of all, the hike has stayed with me, with a special quality in my memory. That's worth a lot.

Spent all last sunday hiking and ate 1g of PE about midway through. Found an epic waterfall, strolled through the woods, and my buddy fell in the creek which was apparently a lot deeper than we thought cause he straight disappeared for a second 1g was totally enough to enhance the hike without holding us back

I'm not much of a walker or hiker, but I totally understand the desire to do it. I love, love, love, getting on my bicycle while tripping. Sometimes I time a ride and take the shrooms at different points just for shits and giggles. A couple of weeks ago, I did a 60 mile ride, and was sober the whole time, but having about 2.7 grams of dried in capsules, I took it with about 20 miles left, at about the 40 mile mark, 1/3 of the way through. lol By the time I got home, I was tripping heavy lol. Felt it creeping up on me for the last 10 miles. Ha! Fun times.

Personally I have taken small doses of cubes while hiking in the complete nowhere in the north of Sweden. Was really great, but it's difficult to be fully at ease and not worry about sudden changes in weather, wild animals, etc...
Wow! Thanks a lot for those! I've been looking for PCT and mushrooms on here.

I took 5g while alone in a desert wilderness once. I think I walked around looking at the crazy looking rock formations and wildlife for 30 minutes and then spent the next 6 hours tripping my face off in a tent. Probably would have been more enjoyable with a far smaller dose. Haven't tried it since.

I have never had a real destination that I needed to get to, more just enjoy myself on the trail. I think I personally would find it difficult to keep moving for 10 straight hours while on them. My plan would be to hike sober bober, and then enjoy the night with them around a fire or something.

I'm an avid backpacker. My type or vacation is packing my pack, getting on a plane and hiking the wilderness mountains. I always bring mushrooms with me in my multivitamin container. Crushed and in pill form.
I will usually put in about 10 miles and then set up camp and then take my mushrooms and enjoy everything. Knowing I don't have to go anywhere or do anything. Everything is already exactly where it needs to be. It's like having a clean bedroom - but in nature.
I'll set up my hammock, break out my sleeping bag or small quilt (depending on weather) - and enjoy. Usually neighbored by an alpine lake or mountains. This was the view from my first nights campsite on my latest trip:

I've found you're really much more able to dig into your surroundings when you're not worried about walking. I just went around and enjoyed the view of everything within 10 feet. There was so much to see.
I've done day hikes locally around my state - and have had great times as well. But I have definitely noticed I rather be sitting still and not walking. This is a personal preference!
