Habitat: PNW growing on a conifer stump
Gills: N/A
Stem: Black, smooth (not sticky) and roughly 4" tall
Cap: Flat club
Spore print color: Didn't want to pick any. Just admiring. Looks like the spores are black coming from the dimples spotted across all of the shrooms.
Bruising: N/A
Other information: I didn't want to pick them because they were so unique. I think I know what it is and I mostly just wanted to share the beauty. From the correct angle it looked like black flames coming from the stump. Wouldn't mind hearing some pros weigh in on the ID though.

Right? Love clubs and corals and puffs. They are so alien.

Very similar to Xylaria hypoxylon.

I had to look that one up (thank you!) I see the similarity with the "nodal" like split on the top but this mush is for sure on conifer softwood. Hemlock or Sitka spruce most likely. I'm thinking it's Trichoglossum hirsutum with some kind of environmental quark. But again I'd love a pro to confirm. Pretty little things regardless.

Definitely Xylaria sp., probably X. hypoxylon group, but also could be X. multiplex.
