Seeding spores on manure
    #26685305 - 05/21/20 10:06 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Can one use a spore syringe to seed a horse manure mixture for an open tray grow? I use pf-tek, and it works fine. But I have a horse stable next door I already raid for my compost heap, so I have a ready source of poop. It would be great since I'd like to max my fruiting bodies.

You can’t put spores directly to poo. Nothing will come of it. U can grow Pf cakes and break them up as spawn for the poo though. You have to properly  pasteurize it though so I’d recommend you just get some coir to gain some experience before messing with the shit.

In the summer though if you gather some leeched horse poo you can mix colonized grains or BRF cakes with the duke and leave it outside in a shallow hole, covered with leaves and stuff or plastic if it seems dry. Then you won’t have to pasteurize anything as you get the natural magic of the outdoors. It’s weird how that works

But ya...no spores directly to poo. It could work some time somewhere but billions of spores land in poop all the time and never materialize into mushrooms so you want to really put the odds in your favor
