Do you think these kits have stalled?
    #26683069 - 05/20/20 11:03 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hi!

It's been almost 2 weeks since I put these kits in their grow bags after dunking over night.

As you can see, there's just little mycelium growth on the surface one of them. The rest of the substrate is completely colonized but for some reason they seem to not be progressing much at all.

Is this normal after almost 2 weeks?

Thank you

kits were prolly beyond fucked when u got them. thats just what happens with kits. its a roll of the dice man but usually they dont produce nothing but problems, mold and bacteria. just take it as a lesson learned and if your serious about growing find a well proven tek on here and follow it to the letter and you will be rewarded with more mushrooms than you could ever want to eat. bods teks are a great place to start

Without pictures of the side of the kit there is no way to tell what is going on. It looks like dry vermiculite to me.

Thanks for your reply!

I took some pictures from the sides.

Mazatapec Kit:

It's hard to tell because of the flashlight but there is some rhizomorphic mycelium on one of the sides.

Mckennai Kit:

Thanks! Yes, I know kits aren't the best option, but right now with coronavirus they were easier to get than all the supplies to do it myself.

Wow, how fast the posts disappear from the first page :S

Anyone got any advice concerning these grow kits?

Thanks a lot!

Well they look colonized and pretty good. They might just still be consolidating
more and will just take a little longer. I see holes in the bags which
is good. I suggest looking into a shotgun fruiting chamber in the future
if you're going to keep doing cakes and dishes like this.

Another nice way to get into stuff is using Agar, oats, shoebox grows

Thank you! I was just getting worried because I see so little progress, especially on the McKennai kit, which, to my untrained eye, looks exactly how it looked when I got it.

I actually taped the holes with micropore tape yesterday, thinking I may have been introducing FAE too early. Do you suggest removing the tape?

I also was considering making a SGFC but I don't have a drill and can't borrow one right now. Before I got these kits I was looking into the shoebox tek and that's probably my next move, although I don't have a pressure cooker so I don't know how the chances of success are without that.

Yeah they are still consolidate ing.

They don't look like they have started to shrink yet. I would give it more time.

Leave like one of the holes uncovered so it gets good gas exchange.

A pressure cooker is necessary for working with grains like oats.
Lotta bacteria and bad stuff live deep within the seeds so a PC
has to be used to sterilize them.

Yes, you're right, they look about the same size as when they arrived.

Is this normal for mycelium to take so long to consolidate?

Nice, that's actually exactly what I did lol thank you!

Maybe next time I'll try BRF to bulk with coir as, from what I read, that doesn't necessarily require a PC.

A PC is a must if you want to really grow mushrooms. I know you can boil pF jars but they are hit and miss when using spores to anything.

Like crayons vs high end paint.

That's what I thought and why I didn't dive head first into cultivation teks without knowing if I even enjoy this.

I actually have a small pressure cooker (6L) that has written on its bottom 0.55bar PS: 1.0 bar, but I think that's not enough pressure to sterilize.

Concerning the kits I have going now, do you guys suggest letting it do it's thing without opening it too much (or even not opening it at all?).

Thank you!
