    #26682555 - 05/20/20 04:54 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Found these two patches in Auckland
Both species growing on bark. My thoughts are that these are:
Psilocybe Weraroa var Subsecotioides and Psilocybe subaeruginosa

*********************************************************************************
Species #1: Psilocybe Weraroa var Subsecotioides
Habitat: Bark
Gills: Brown
Stem: White, bruising blue, 1-2cm long, 0.5cm wide, hollow through middle
Cap: Light Brown/ Brown-gold-yellow, 1-2.5cm
Spore print: not able to get spore print - closed cap, no spores even if opened
Bruising: blue on on stem, no obvious bruising on Cap
General location: Auckland, New Zealand

*********************************************************************************
Species #2: Psilocybe subaeruginosa
Habitat: Growing on bark
Gills: Creamy-brown
Stem: white, 3.5cm long, 0.5cm wide, hollow through middle
Cap: Brown-gold, 1.5-3cm
Spore print: Purple/brownish
Bruising: Blue (both cap and stem)
General location: Auckland, New Zealand

Love that phenotype of Subs, reminds me of Ps. cyanescens. I think the veil overlaps the cap in the pin stage, than leaves a speckled halo around the cap edges.

Is there any other way to know that someone is TI other than looking here:

Forgot also to ask about the potency of these Weraroa subsecotioides - how do they compare to Subaeruginosa (don't see them in the calculator)?

Can they be dried, or freezing is better (read that Weraroa loose a lot with drying)?

Weraroa doesn't loose more potency than others by drying. Drying + freezing is the way to go. Freezing fresh mushrooms is a bad idea.
I think psilocybe weraroa is about as potent as semilanceata. Not sure about this, though.
