Intaking unidentified Cacti

I live in a zone in south America (Uruguay ?? to be more specific) in which there are no indegenous people left, and there is no ancient knowledge about many of the native plants of this area, specifically in my city, there are some semi-desertic areas in which several cactus species grow of which the properties are unknown for lack of research or interest. I'm willing to bite the bullet and attempt to consume the alkaloids present on these species. I know that none of these are San Pedro but they have a similar size and color (unrelated to chemical properties but whatever). It's more "for science" than anything.
My question is:what are the dangers? I plan on cooking and consuming the "green part" in the same way youd prepare San Pedro.
here is a picture of an old looking cactus in its natural habitat, I presume its cereus uruguayanus but other species habit the area aswell

Eating unidentified cacti or fungi is pure stupidity and a fast track to winning a Darwin Award.
Do not consume unknown/unidentifiable plants & fungi. Get it ID’d by a trusted botanist-mycologist or cultivator.
Biting the bullet...Jesus help you. Your actions bare consequences on not only yourself.
Try asking and waiting for a trusted member to make a positive ID, here is a link to the more appropriate section of the forums for this kind of thread.

Also, I suggest you do the same thing on a site that is trusted & deals primarily with cacti.
What you suggest your about to do isn't science...it’s Especially since we no longer live in the dark ages.
I’m not even close to an expert on cacti, but a simple online search seems to show that cereus uruguayanus is not psychoactive.

the only info online boils down to >is it t.peruv.?no?then it isn't psychoactive.. there really isn't any more info..
what I'm asking is what things do cacti usually have in their composition, AFAIK it's alkaloids that make it taste bitter so animals don't eat their flesh
also about "get a trusted dealer" is gringo talk, there is none of that here

Gringo? Ha. Gotta love the internet.
Just make sure someone who knows what’s what about that specific cactus lends you a hand in ID’ing it as safe to consume or not.
Gringo or no gringo.

In any case, I'd read as much as possible. There are numerous known published works not just on cacti, but psychedelics in general. There's good basic information in those. I wouldn't ask around nor read anyone's online comments since they're mostly amateurs at both writing and being psychonauts, and are usually just assholes seeking an audience. That prevention in effect reinforces not just critical thinking, but also thinking on your own with less reliance on strangers or acquaintances. To begin, learn and know the differences between San Pedro and Peyote. Mescaline is the alkaloid known to be in both San Pedro cacti and Peyote buttons. You can try an extract of it although the community largely agrees the presence of the other Anhalonine alkaloids play a role in the intoxication too. Even though forums are to seek assistance I wouldn't rely on them too much for anything, not even sponsors. Since everyone just downloads books these days, that should make it easier for you because you don't have to buy any and can just read and own a digital version for free. It's no wonder the cacti hallucinogens are getting more popular these days instead of the "4" main ones, those being LSD, mushrooms, DMT, and harmine (for ayahuasca). I'd still keep such talk down since the world is still racist, and discriminates against people of color by associating them with poverty and psychedelics or drug use. Authorities on the cacti say to use Lophophora williamsii, although, if you're feeling interested, no one can really stop you from eating what you find. It's sometimes as simple as being interested in keeping up the practice, so lots of reading and writing are expected in the form of "reports." Keep in mind communication turned into a game, so that everyone is holding valuable information and you can't expect them to speak up. Coming off as "ignorant" simply gives others the chance to make new darts, usually for harm, so when dabbling in a community of psychoactive substance abusers, nonetheless, you're expected to write and reveal as much information that you know in order to have performed a satisfying social exchange.

At the very least you could take a picture of the cactus in question and post an ID thread in Ethno Garden to see what they say. They may not be able to tell you what it is but they’ll be able to tell you what it isn’t..
