I'm thinking of taking a road trip
    #26683843 - 05/20/20 05:31 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Need to change my surroundings for a bit.

I'm near Boston. I could take anywhere from 9-14 days.

WWJD?

I'm feeling NC and TN right now. I have to connect some dots...

Go foraging! It's morel season right now. Just went to upstate NY to forage this last weekend and they were in full swing.

Sounds like a wicked plan.. except when you factor in the fact I know shit all about foraging.

Prerequisite knowledge don't come with the job title, unfortunately.

You should come paddle down the river with us Sunday in North Alabama.

Drink some beer, drown some bait, throw a magnet in the water. We've got extra boats for foreigners and stragglers and whatnot.

Awesome plan mycosis. Appreciate the invite brother, would love to meet you.

If this thing develops, I'll hit you up 100%.

That would be a badass trip and I have thought about the same thing. Im here near dc and I wouldnt think a trip out west would be worth it just because of time vs distance.

The worst part about it obviously alot of places are closed. Food opportunities are minimized. Best thing is minimal traffic and cops.

In the tri-state area of NC, SC, and TN in the Nantahala Forest, its beautiful especially if you like to drive good roads. Hours and hours with miles and miles of roads. Famous one being the Tail of the Dragon. Been there twice. Good camping spots too Im sure.

I love that part of the country. Deal's Gap.

I've paddled the Nantahala River in a kayak. Super fun times!

If your into camping maybe look at blm territory in the general areas of interest and just live outside for a while. Especially so if hot springs are near the camping spot.

You ever been to the Appalachian Mountains in NC or TN?  Absolutely breathtaking.
Check out the Great Smokey Mountain National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

What's on the map is what I've already done, road trip wise. I've been more places than that but only via flights, so it doesn't count, IMO.

I just need to fill in that little gap now.

Yeah I rode the dragons tail on a Harley.

If that's the map you've traveled then you've missed the best part of the American southwest from my own experiences. I would make Bisbee Arizona a place worth visiting. It's got a mural of the town on a building downtown with a banner that reads "the town that's too high to care". Lots of camping nearby and some of the best stargazing I've ever enjoyed. Great cacti hunting grounds as well

Asheville / Boone
Lenoir
Henderson

Linville Gorge
Grandfather Mountain
National Parks & Reserves

Raleigh/ Durham / Chapel Hill/ Cary

Charlotte
Wilmington
Emerald Isle
Ocracoke Isle
Outer banks
Oceans, sounds, beaches
Pamlico

I would think there would be more cops as they have nothing to do. I walk around my area at night and everything is closed, even the 24 hour 7-11, whenever i see cops they stare they stare at me. Used to be they never looked twice at me as they raced to bar fights, now, its just nothing to do and them scrutinizing everyone on the streets

Correctamundo!! With so much of this world to explore and so little time to do it, I very rarely tread paths I have taken before.
