ID request-Tennessee USA
    #26683112 - 05/20/20 11:21 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hi everyone. Only my second post. My first one I found growing out of some trampled hay where the cows had been and this turned out to be Paneaeolus foenisecii. Today I noticed a number of these beauties growing out of actual cow patties. Instead of being more rounded on the top and a brownish color, these are grayish and the tops are pointed like those neat hats the old Asian guys wear. Also the stems are white and have some fuzz on them. Hope someone can help! Thank you!

Habitat:
Growing out of a cow patty

Stem:
Tall and hollow, with white hairs.

Cap:
Grayish

Spore print color:
Not sure

Bruising:
Black

Other information:
Smells like the special ones.

They Are Definitely A Coprinoid Sp & Definitely Non Active.

If You Are Looking For Dung Loving Actives, Your Best Bet Would Be Psilocybe Cubensis. Read As Much As You Can Find About Them, You Are Looking In The Right Habitat:thumbup:

No way brother! All mushrooms deserve respect, and one of the best tasting mushrooms in the world, my opinion, is in that exact family of mushrooms  :awesomenod:

Coprinus Comatus Is Good When Young, Sliced Up & Sauteed In Butter. However, I Can't Seem To Ever Find Them When They Are Young, I Always Find The Goo Guys.

I Love Coprinoids Basically For 1 Reason. When I See Them & Other Non Actives, It Tells Me The Conditions Are Right For The Other Good Mushies.

Yes sir, they are very hard to find when young, and as a matter of fact, I haven't found any since 2006 when I resided in Illinois, sadly.

I also agree, when you start seeing Pluteus, Galerina, and coprinoids, you know all the good stuff is on it's way:grin:

This is actually the feature I find most intriguing with those little fellas, in addition to their somewhat
nondescript, minimalistic beauty - that is, if you happen to come upon them at the exact hour they are in their prime.

I mean, it's like they are programmed to elude and avoid attention, with their fleeting and ephemeral life cycle.
