Flowhood assistance needed

I've been working on acquiring all the components to build my first flowhood. After much research I jumped on a 24" x 18" x 5-7/8" 99.9999% filter from glasfloss. Unfortunately after even more research I've become confused on matching a blower with this filter.
Looking over the spec sheet it shows this filter is rated for 175FPM @ .79inwg There is also this graph at the bottom of the spec sheet showing the pressure drop @ certain FPMs, Im unsure if this graph would pertain to me matching a blower or not:

Edit: For clarification my filter would be the 'SC' in this chart, for standard capacity
Here is the spec sheet. My filter is a model # 2418A6
According to the write ups I've read, with a rating of .79" + prefilter (.1-.2) I should be looking at a blower that can perform at around 300CFM @ 1" sp to achieve laminar flow. Does this seem correct? or am I calculating all of this incorrectly?
I've looked at these 3 fans, though one of them has a lead time until August:
FG10 ~340-350CFM @ 1SP Dayton 1TDT2 ~320CFM @.9SP (Figured I could use a less restrictive prefilter with this one) Dayton 1TDT8 ~320CFM @ 1SP (Has a lead time of early August)
What do you shroomerites think?

I'd go with option 1 with speed control.

You can always dial speed down to get laminar flow and if the filter clogs up you have that extra static pressure to compensate...

Check out the specs. on this filter that Fungi Perfecti supplies..
https://fungi.com/collections/laboratory-equipment/products/the-series-ii-laminar-flow-hood
I think this is the same blower.. https://www.grainger.com/product/DAYTON-OEM-Blower-1TDU2
https://www.ebay.com/p/710147623?iid=182705946449
It's more volume that what you need, you can block the inlet to the blower to adjust flow rate..
Dayton next blower down in size, could be shy of what you need to obtain laminar flow..
It's best to be over than under.

Finished my hood today!

I could have gone slightly smaller on the fan and still gotten by but the speed control works fine at bringing the air speed at the filter down

Looking good man! Have you done some work with it..?
I'm considering getting same size filter. It looks tall enough to handle 20 petri dishes in front of the filter and wide enough for all other stuff...
Let me know how it works.

Not yet, just finished building it a few hours ago. PC'ing some grain tomorrow for my first G2G using it. Might turn this thread into a growlog for my first grow using it!

Little update
Flowhood is working great, have used it a few times on g2g transfers from jar to bag and used it for transfers from petri to jar and petei to petri. Feels really good to finally have a hood to work in front of

Couple of shots from a jar of Mazapatec I recently transferred to. Been transferring this culture from a clone back in May of last year

What blower did you end up using?
I used to have an 18 x 24" hood. The filter I used I believe was .8" SP. I ended up using a Dayton 1TDT2, but I was given the wrong specs on it. It pushes 360CFM @ 0.8" sp so it worked fine but once you add a prefilter of .2"sp it drops down to 240CFM. I never had Any problems with my FH but once I found the real specs I started running it without a FH.
That hood had a deep plenum and was big and bulky so when I moved and didn't have a permanent spot for it I decided to build a smaller hood, a 12 x 24 , with a filter grate. I used the Dayton 1tdt2 on that blower as it's a very good match.
Here is a screenshot of my old hood:

The OPs filter (red line) clearly shows it is .8" SP at 275 FPM and is only roughly 0.3" SP at 125 FPM which is close to laminar flow (90-120). This shows you that you need to pay attention to your filters test speed to determine it's real SP at 100 FPM. You didnt need nearly as much fan as you thought you did.

Are you replying to me? I don't understand what you are trying to say.
My 18 x 24" filter had a 0.8"SP. I needed a blower that pushed a minimum of 300CFM @ 1.0sp if I wanted to add a prefilter with 0.2"SP. The Dayton 1tdt2 blower I used pushes 360cfm @ 0.8" sp. It pushed 240CFM @ 1.0sp which drops quite a bit under 300CFM. So it ran much better without a prefilter.
That's all I was saying.

I'm talking to OP but also all of yall. All of the calculations concerning his filter are way off and nobody ever pointed it out. Even you yourself say your filter was 0.8" SP... At what FPM speed? You all need to ask yourself this to get a real SP number instead of just getting lucky. You can calculate the FPM out of the CFM/Sq Ft. OMG these initialisms tho. Was it a 12" Glassflos filter like OPs because if so you actually have a 0.3" SP filter at 125 fpm.
So thats the point I wanted to make is that OP had a 0.3" SP at 125 FPM filter and not a 0.8" SP filter at 100 FPM that he and everyone else assumed. And that everyone should check to see what Static Pressure at what SPEED your filter is before you go searching fans because a static pressure is not actually....static. It changes based on airspeed, increasing as airspeed increases. Think blowing though a straw. Easy to blow softly, hard to blow a lot of air through.

Sandman's correct
I ended up with much more fan than I needed, but stacking 2 prefilters and an added fan controller brought the speed down enough to provide laminar flow. IIRC the tag on the filter said .79" SP but I had a hunch the graph on the spec sheet had something to do with matching a blower to it, I just couldnt wrap my head around it. I was lucky though and everything worked out fine. Hopefully others will find this post when building their hood and it will give them good insight on what to avoid

Thanks man! I like working with wbs. I never had good luck with oats, and I haven't been able to find rye locally at a decent enough price to warrant growing with it
Quote:

I ended up using the first one, the FG10, an inline 10" fan. It's capable of being used with a speed controller without as much worry about burning up the motor on it. The speed controller was made by the same company intended to be used with that line of fans

I believe at 300CFM my 18 x 24" filter was 0.8". That's why I said it had an SP of 0.8".
Op's wasn't a 12" deep filter though. He said he bought a 18 x 24 x 5 7/8" HEPA.

That's a good catch on the 6" I was just going off the chart he posted. So the 6" is tested at .79" (rounded to 0.8") at 175 FPM instead of 275 fpm. So it would still be much lower at 100 fpm I would estimate about 0.5" which is pretty much exactly what most other brands are at, the biomax HEPAS are around 0.6" SP at 100 fpm as measure by myself with a magnehelic and hot wire anemometer.
This is another opportunity to show that 12" filters have a dramatically lower pressure drop than 6" filters. Roughly half.

Yeah I've heard that about the 12" deep filters.
That is really cool you were able to properly measure yourself. It can be really difficult to track down filter specs sometimes. If someone does their math thinking their filter is 0.8"SP when it really was 0.6" their flow will still be laminar but quite a bit faster than they were aiming for. Except for prints most of our stuff won't get blown around at least
Off hand do you know the brand name of the Fungi Perfecti filters/measured them?

So I'm building my hood right now with a filter I got from FP. It's a 24x36. For my filter (could be different for others) they sourced it from the HEPA Corporation (hepa.com) and it is the HEPA-SEP series. Literally said it right on the label lol. Wish I knew that. I would have gotten it from the source itself and probably saved myself some money

I've bought a couple smaller HEPA from them, honestly it was a fair price I thought. Their blowers, no way.
24 x 36 is a good choice. I found I can do anything with a 12×24 that I can with a 24 x 24" just as easy. The width is what's important IME, you can fit more on the table. So I built a small 12 x 24" so I can move it around. When I have a permanent spot for one I'm gonna go big.

They are practically the only place that will sell you a single new HEPA filter and ship it to you via cheap UPS type carriers. Besides the Koch Biomax filters on eBay from Zoro which are decent but takes 2+ months and the price seems to have gone WAY up over the last year.

My HEPA from spycor was shipped via FedEx. Was actually upset cause some of the metal fins were bent when it was received so I had to bend them back out. The HEPA had to be made though and took around 3-4 weeks

FP? Yeah they're pretty good about shipping too. They use those boards on either side of the filter. The first filter I ordered from them had some bent pins but they made it right.
