dunking a stalled PE shoebox?
    #26683141 - 05/20/20 11:36 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

I have two shoe boxes of penis envy that have totally stalled--there has been no real surface activity for almost over a week (though the mycelium has continued to fully colonize the substrate underneath the surface).  I think the surfaces got too dry. Is it a bad idea to dunk them for a couple of hours? My hope is that this my kickstart them a bit. Is this a reasonable hope?  Thanks in advance for any input.

How heavy are the shoeboxes? PE can take a bit to fruit in between flushes.

You can dunk to add more water back into the sub. I just did this very thing today. But I am fruiting on Oakmulch and it doesn't hold asuch water.

they sb's haven't produced any flushes yet--they were colonizing really well, then just kind of stopped, got a dry looking, and haven't really changed since then.

i've been misting the shit out of them, but it hasn't helped.  i added a humidifier to my grow room, but that hasn't helped either (but it has helped my B+ tubs).  what about bottom watering? i haven't read much about it yet, but have seen it pop up on the forum quite a bit.

So PE can take a long time to pin. Did you add a casing layer? That would help. I'm a big fan of Jiffy Mix.

How long since full colonization?

it's been around two weeks since colonization (maybe 12 days).  i didn't do a casing layer--is it too late to add one?

no heating pad, just a space heater in the room (keeping it between 74-76 degrees). it was drying the air so much, i added a humidifier, which is helping a bit...and thanks for your help with this

I'd also case it, but I'm not experienced with PE.

been doing some reading here, and the consensus is to case PE...different approaches on when to case them, but late casing seems to be a favorite time for a lot of folks in various threads on PE--so i just cased them after giving them a 2 hour dunking.

bonus: during the casing process i found the first PE pin!!!  overall, these are taking longer than my B+, but i'm hoping it's worth the wait...thanks for the help
