Take a look at the site back in 99, https://web.archive.org/web/19991110122357/https://www.shroomery.org/ Had no clue this site was that old, pretty neat stuff. Also if you have some computer know-how you can access some trip reports back from 99, which are inaccessible here: https://web.archive.org/web/19991110122357/https://www.shroomery.org/
Here's one: https://www.shroomery.org/156/All-is-Well
Edit: admin replied, site was actually created in 97, here: http://web.archive.org/web/20000124033655fw_/http://www.shroomery.org/oldindex.html

thanks for sharing this, I had no idea there was archives from way back when
It's really neat being able to check it out and even better, a ton of the sidelinks were archived too so you can still navigate to them.
Awesome stuff

Yes I've always been amazed at how old this site actually is. It's relatively unchanged, too. There are a couple of accounts from 1999 on here that are mind-blowing, lol. I barely had a computer in my home in 1999, let alone figuring out what forums and communities were.
Who is the oldest, first official member of the site? The owner?

Man what a trip! I regret that I didn't keep a copy of the original layout from 1997. It was primary colors with bright red, yellow, and blue frames. I remember using Calvin & Hobbes and M.C. Escher imagery which was incredibly tacky, and problematic from a copyright perspective. My god it was peak 90s web.
If you want to go back a little earlier in time this is the earliest version of the site I can find. It's a capture of our second layout (after the hideous primary colors) which was probably in effect around 1998 - early 1999. The archive.org capture is itself a copy of an archive of the retired design. I made that "rainbow brain" logo using Kai's Power Tools for Photoshop 4.
All the trip reports from our inception should still exist on this site! It's been many years, but we've worked hard to preserve our data. I just checked a selection of the archived reports, and we're still hosting all of them. I should note that back in those days a lot of the trip reports were copied from Lycaeum.org. I never imagined we'd outlast that site.
Damn, I feel really old now.

Whoa man this is awesome trippy. I was 5 years old in 99
Thanks for this window into our origins. Something that strikes me is this place has always been a prevention site for crazy drug ideas or mis identifying mushrooms which has saved me from poisonous mushrooms and overdoses in the past crazy how this community has changed.
Thank you for creating this community I love ythan , I often think of u as more of a legend but you're a shroomite also. You love people in this community and vise versa been through the losses and gains with us. I had forgotten lyceaum also erowid was big back in the day but their owner was crap. Asked for huge donations and hand picked who got to tell there trip report no less actually connect in subforums with the Pub which became it's own animal.
Did you expect people who were sober to still want to be on here all the time for the community in the Pub type of setting or was that just a fun idea you hoped would go places?

I laugh at revealing my age because I figured I was young as fuck compared to most here, then you come revealing you're only 25-26, lol.
I was 11 in 1999 and people were just starting to get beyond AOL in terms of online browsing. I remember having Prodigy internet and thinking I was the shit!

DUDE...HOW did I miss this post?!
I had NO idea you were on here as far back as 1997! That is MIND BLOWING to me; I figured 1999 was the earliest!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for this amazing resource, Ythan!

Thats the mustard yellow Shroomery I known and loved.
This is your Ark Ythan, with experts noobs and trolls of all kinds populating it on the high seas of the Internet.
A stroke of divine inspiration.
If you imagine how much time people spent in it over 23 years, how much good ideas found their platform here and spread through here.
How many more lives the Shroomery saved, not just directly like with the 131mg of 2C-P

but indirectly and better still by KEEPING PEOPLE FROM LIFE ALTERING MISTAKES.
We have gotten hits from everywhere but Antartica!
Think of how we helped the psychedelic revolution, and the great mushroom expansion to the four corners of the earth.
A stroke of genius.
The Shroomery is a part of my life for 20 years, may it be, forevermore!

I was a single year old when this site went live, nuts. I've only just started getting really interested in shrooms and mushrooms in general (and have yet to use any drug at all) and it's pretty cool to have this resource, I can't stop reading . Also as a computer-oriented person, I am very impressed with the design of Shroomery. Well done Ythan
Thank you!

I joined in 99 towards the end of high school. Posted some dumb stuff back then, some of which disappeared in a crash I think. Some people I remember posting back around then were Moe Howard, Senor Doobie, grnm23, and Cherry Bom. Moe Howard is now Macy Howard.
