How old is too old for outdoor mushrooms?

Hello everyone. I searched for an answer a bit but most results were about the age of spawn instead of fruits. Anyway, I was outside smoking my morning blunt when I thought I'd take a look at my outdoor projects since it rained yesterday. I have a pile of old spawn that didnt make the cut that I threw some coir over in my back yard and it grew a bunch of mushrooms while I was gone. Most of them are pretty aged but still look good. There was a cluster that looked considerably older and I wasn't sure how long after dropping spores they're good to eat?

The cluster in question are the gray ones near the bottom left of the image. There's one huge one that looks way too old but the rest I'm not sure about. The graying may be due to sunlight as that part isn't as shaded as the rest of the pile.
Any insight would be appreciated. I'll have to make sure I'm paying better attention to it and catch them before they get that old.

Mushrooms are too old if they're rotting. Just treat them like produce from the grocery store, if they look too gross for b'sketty then they're likely to gross for tripping balls.
They look fine other than that gnarly one bottom left but the pic isn't that clear.

Here's a couple better pictures. Thanks for the input, I don't think they look rotten, just a little dry. I'd hate to chuck em lol

Pick them all. Any slimy ones you find unable to fathom eating toss away. Outdoor mushies are the fricken best.

Is that how easy it is to grow outside? Take some used spawn and coir, put it in a place outside, not in direct sunlight and let it do it’s work?

Moist and shady but yeah just put them somewhere with good conditions and let them go.
OP maybe just pick the cream of the crop as they mature and leave the rest alone to drop spores and rot back into the spot for future flushes.

Damn look at those big caps.
What type of spawn was it??
Obviously one of the normal cube varieties but it’s amazing how different they look outside.

Apparently lol I just tossed some bacterial looking jars and put some extra coir over the top of it and forgot about it. My region is very good for natural cubes which probably helps. I chucked some spent subs in a different spot and they seem to be putting some fruit out as well.

They'd all dropped plenty of spores and there should still be plenty of nutes from the grain. I'm probably just going to do the same thing again and just dump sketchy jars and cover with coir waste not want not haha
Aka, the spawn was pink buffalo. They definitely look a bit different than the ones I grew inside. I have a giveaway going right now if you want a print

There's some similarities but it's crazy how good nature is at doing it's thing haha

I used to plant my spent/contamed subs in the flower bed. If they fruited I had about a day or two to notice before slugs, beetles, flies etc got them.
This year I'm putting the tubs outside in a shade tent, on a table. Gives me a few extra days before the wildlife can find them, seems to work just as well.
But yeah, the fruits are so much better looking. Thick, solid, bigger caps. Even the pins are massive in comparison.

Yeah they look completely different.
I like how the ones on the bottom left make a staircase in a straight line. Following the water I’m assuming.
I’m gonna have to put a tub outside now. I’ll have to put a tarp over it or something to try and hold humidity though.

Thanks for the response, I am definitely going to attempt that. It will be seasonal then if course? I'm new and still learning. Autumn time in the UK then to fruit, or can you get spring and autumn?
