Issues with casing layer

Hello everyone! I am having a bit of an issue with one of my shoeboxes. I let it colonize for a full 7 days which I'm thinking maybe too long. It looked great initially but now The mycelium on the casing layer seems thick (not fluffy...just white) and water sits on top of it. It is fully colonized and the substrate hasn't shrank at all. In fact, it sticks to the walls! It still definitely has a heavy mushroom smell.I HATE to say this because I know it irritates people here but I'm afraid it may be overlay. I've gone through a bunch of posts here to compare it against folks that think they have it just in case and I'm only posting because my tub looks a little different. I had a tub similar to this one a few weeks ago that just stalled out completely. Is there any saving this? Also what would you recommend in the future to prevent this, I guess besides initiating FC earlier.

Thanks for any advice and please forgive any formatting issues, I'm on mobile!

Dosen't look too bad to me, just try to fan away those drops of water. You dont want any more than tiny beads of water on the surface.

I've had mycelium that looked similar to this. After about 2 weeks there was maybe 1 pin on top and then after one more week it exploded with only side pins. I'm not sure why this happens though, although I suspect bacteria. Leave it alone and see what happens, it eventually fruited for me, although not ideally. One thing I've noticed is that I was making my coir too wet, so it could be that if you are using coir.

I am only using coir (I'm new and wanted to K.I.S.S). I also am Admittedly heavy handed when it comes to misting. I'll lay off the water and fan a little more. Hopefully itll fruit soon! Thanks

Yeah, I was constantly looking over it and misting as well. It's kind of hard to resist, but I've learned that you can actually care too much and do more harm than good. I think its best to just get to field capacity right from the start and let them do their thing for at least a week or two
