Brain bleedage?
    #2667889 - 05/12/04 08:30 AM (19 years, 10 months ago)

Everyone says eating shrooms makes your brain bleed... This true? If so/not, explanation? Everybody is convinced brain bleedage is what causes hallucinations; I always thought it was the psychoactive chemicals :kodama:

Then everyone is wrong... :smirk:

Psilocin and psilocybin, the psychoactive chemicals in magic mushrooms, are similar in structure to an endogenous neurotransmitter called serotonin. Hence, they bind with various serotonin receptor proteins on serotonergic neurons in the brain. This causes an alteration in the normal flow of electro-chemical based tranmission patterns in the brain, which, in turn, can cause audio and visual hallucinations, as well as more profound changes in thought process and pattern recognition -- leading to novel ways of perceiving and processing the normal flow of data, and giving rise to insights into not only the structure of external consensus reality, but also into the the internal fucntioning of the individual psychology of the ingestor...

You thought correctly. Those who say it's brain bleedage aren't thinking.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

The war on drugs is so rediculous, always saying outrageous things and making the most odd claims...your brain bleeds!!! christ...There was an article in my cities newspaper, some cock stated "We need to incorperate more MJ organizations to help addicts with their MJ addictions..." hmm...really what they mean is: Let's make places where we can tax the shit out of stoners and bank in so much loot after the pot-head has been criminalized because, we love money!!! money, money money! Sorry, I went a little off topic.

It's such a stupid myth when you think about it.

Your brain bleeding would mean a blood vessel popped in your head... and I would imagine your head would really hurt at the time, and for a while after that.

My friend criticized me for eating mushrooms, told me they'd fuck me up, make my brain bleed.  I told him to do some fucking research, and now he grows em himself

This type of information can't be born from anywhere, maybe its from what people say that they feel.
Ok, i'll believe that tripping doesn't make your brain bleed, but on my second trip (out of four) a year ago, i really did feel that my brain was bleeding. it was like it was being flooded by some kind of warm liquid.
Before that trip, i had never heard of such a thing, so it can't be a result of an illusionary realisation of previously heard of phenomenon.
If it's not some illusion, then what else could it be?

What the hell man? Do you even know what having your brain bleeding feels like? I doubt you have had it happen to you before, as something to compare it to.

Interesting, I have heard that heavy cocaine use can cause your brain to "bleed". Anyone know anything about this? There was a pic in my neuroscience textbook. Something about micro-hemorrhages.
