they have little hard hats???
    #26678618 - 05/18/20 10:04 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

so i have a first flush coming in slowly, but have noticed that the first ones to pin and start growing have these hard little hats growing on the caps...the younger ones don't have this.  and they're all pretty stubby.  i guess conditions aren't optimum--i think they got a bit dry, but not sure...what causes these hats on caps and stubby fruit?  and are the ones with the hats ok to consume?  thanks in advance for any and all input.

could be mutation or genetics. They are safe to consume tho

does the genetic mutation also explain the short, stubby fruiting?  and thanks to you guys for the help!!!

could be, but it could also be caused by too much water at spawn time
