The Commodore AMIGA * 1
    #26678217 - 05/18/20 05:34 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hello All

So you may have seen my C64 Music thread (now called "The Commodore 64"), well now it's time for the Amiga :thumbup:.

The Amiga 500 came out (of the box ) in 1987.  It was loved by many over the years & i am one of those people.  If it wasn't 4 the damn laws i would be married to my Amiga 500  :androidlol:.

Jokes aside, this thread is all about the awesome Amiga.

I'll add stuff about the Amiga in the coming days/weeks.

This first video shows Protracker (aka NoiseTracker) playing a module (.mod)

The Amiga's sound chips only had 4 voices which wasn't really enough, but it still did ok as a computer even if it could have had a few more (6 would have been enough).

Enjoy the cool music

….

Back in the day (late 80's, 90's) people would make demos showing off the graphic capabilities of a particular machine.  The Amiga had a large range of demos made by enthusiast and now I would like share some of my old favorites,
starting with these two.....enjoy .

btw, please keep in mind that the Amiga 500 only had half a meg of ram (it could be upgraded to 1 megabyte or a bit more).

People still do that! Demoscene parties like Revision even have their own compo block dedicated to Amiga demos.
And also there still a lot of old school demos being made that look really good!

Hi krock

I had some idea that there was still a scene happening, but I thought it wasn't anything like it used to be (back in the day).

Maybe I should look into the demo scene again.

Thanks for your post :retrocool:.

Awesome! I've really been heavy into checking out demoscene stuff lately, but more for the original C64 than the Amiga. That thing only had 3 voices, but man, those were 3 insane voices that put even a lot of modern digitally-controlled analog synths to shame!

Hearing the stories about how they found out you had a 4-bit buffer(??) due to some glitch in the SID chip spec that could be exploited to playback samples is like some Apollo 13 shit that we probably won't see again; people just don't all buy the same system and optimize the hell out of it the same way anymore.

Love that the Amiga-Commodore demo scene is still alive. Takes a lot of talent and knowledge to do what you guys do. I'll check more of your stuff out after work!

Hello THT, thanks for checking out the thread

By far the best computers I have ever owned were the C64 & the Amiga.  What they could do with so little was amazing.  I had just as much fun, if not more, then I do on my current computer costing around $2500 Australian dollars.  I know that things are different now but try only having 1 megabyte of ram on today's computers and see how far you'll get .

btw, I tried to find new demos for the Amiga on youtube the other day but couldn't really find anything.  If you don't mind sharing some of the sites you visit that have the latest C64 and Amiga demos, that would be great

Thanks.

Here are the newest c64 demos released:
https://www.pouet.net/prodlist.php?platform%5B%5D=Commodore+64&page=1

Newest amiga demos released:
https://www.pouet.net/prodlist.php?platform%5B%5D=Amiga+AGA&platform%5B%5D=Amiga+OCS%2FECS&platform%5B%5D=Amiga+PPC%2FRTG&page=1

The demoscene is a bit weak right now because of covid. Most demoparties are online only these days. So I think many people save their good entries for next year, so that they can be seen in person.

Pouet is a great overview of all kinds of demos on all kinds of hardware. Some demos that could even put your 2500 AUD computer to good use

Thanks again.  Have a great day

Cool stuff blessed!  I occasionally fire up Amigasys4 (amiga 3.9) in winUAE... I'm a sucker for those old school games.

Thanks LookingForward.

I can't remember all the games that i enjoyed on the Amiga, but some of them were these,

Stunt Car Racer

Indianapolis 500

Skidmarks

SWIV  (Gameplay starts at 4:15)

Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge

There were more games i loved but i just can't remember all their names.

....

C64 games that were the best were,

Last Ninja 1 - 3  (Last Ninja 1 is probably the best game i have ever played :thumbup:)

Bruce Lee

Leaderboard

and Ghostbusters

Plus many more but hard to remember that far back :grampofapproval:

Would have liked to see the Amiga survive, but oh well that's life :frown:

My poor parents saved up and spend over $1000nzd in the late 80's for me to have a computer to learn with, and it was obsolete in a couple of years.. I had fun playing copied games from friends tho.
I remember finding the cheat code for swiv and be able to clock that game.
Man fun times.. the new Zealand story, and body blows, a fighting game, and doodlebug

Oh yeah that Lotus Esprit game is pretty fun. I have a pretty long list of 'best- of' games I have been trying to play through. I tend to go back to the classics I played when I was a kid.

Alien Breed,  Another world,  Cannon Fodder,  Lemmings,  Worms,  Bubble Bobble are some of my random favorites.
