Hi again,
I appear to have been bitten by the mushroom hunting bug!
I found this on my property in Southern Tasmania today. Curious because it bruises blue... Anyone know what this is?
PS - Really appreciate you folks who put in the time to help out us noobs. Thanks
Habitat: In pasture, on horse manure, growing alone.
Gills: brown
Stem: orange, thin, has small hole through the centre (not completely hollow). Not smooshy, but not as woody/strong as the sub I found a few days ago.
Cap: orange/white, convex with central bump
Spore print color: hasn't dropped any spores yet (been out for several hours)
Bruising: bruises blue on the cap, nothing on stem

Hi, my knowledge of poo mushrooms is limited, but I'd say it's not a magic mushroom. Most if not all Tassie Magic Mushrooms are wood lovers. I don't remember reading anything on this site about any Tasmanian magic mushrooms growing off manure. The only possible magic mushroom (there is another type but I can't remember the name sorry) that (doubt it though) might grow on manure down here could be cubes , which I once thought I saw as I was riding my motorbike years ago, but I could be wrong about it being a cube (it was summer though).
So I'd say not a magic mushroom sorry, but just wait for other opinions please

Thanks Blessed - good info about poo mushies in TAS
The stem has now bruised blue as well (overnight). Still no spore print, looks like what it has dropped would be brownish, but so little that it's hard to tell.
The only orange active in Tas is Gymnopilus sp. I think? And I don't think that bruises blue, or has brown gills, and rarely grows alone.
Would still love an ID if anyone can chip in? Good for learning.
Also, if the blue bruising is not active, does that mean it's likely poisonous to some degree? Thanks.

Wow, really?! That's exciting - especially as it is only 50 metres from my back door
As I now only have a total of two mushrooms - 1 sub and this one... Can different species be taken together? Possibly a stupid question, but I'm a total first timer.
Thanks

Nice one! Yes, no problem taking several species, they have the same alkaloids

I'd wait for a T.I on that one.

I would advise against eating that yet.
In my very limited experience coming across P.alutacea they’re generally a lot smaller. That being said they can grow as large as the mushroom you have pictured. The largest one I found is in my gallery if you want to compare. It showed all the three things I look for when I come across potential suspects..
-Blue bruising: Most specimens don’t bruise blue from the wild anyway. The one you have seems to be more of a faint black bruising. Would you have photos of the bruising on the stem?
-Dark purple brown spores: You’ve had trouble getting a print from this one.
-it should have a separable gelatinous pellicle: Not sure if it’s too late to try with yours.
That pale red tinge is also a red flag IMO. I’ve seen a few similar ones to your find growing out of horse dung in eastern Victoria that I didn’t give a second look. Don’t risk it, wait for a TI or someone with who has experience identifying P.Alutacea before consuming.

Thanks for the caution - got excited there!
The pellicle - it's quite dry, but I could peel a little of it before it started to come apart - it was easier at the top where it was still a little slimy.
I got some spores on my finger so have pressed the cap into the paper to get the 'print' pictured below.
I've also photographed it next to my cap - the staining is darker than the cap, especially at the edges, more similar in the middle.
Any thoughts from a T.I ?

Thanks.

It doesn't look blue to me, though. The cap is way more red as well. Hmm... Sure it was blue?

I'm pretty sure what's going on here is you have an inactive species (too dried to figure out) dropping its dark spores on the cap, casting the illusion of bruising.
