Depends what you mean by Pins and mature bro. Proper miniature pins (barely visible tiny white worm with a speck of colour on top) to picking is anything from 3-10 days, but those ones above in your photo are much older/bigger than pins. Here’s what I would call a developed pin
Most research I’ve come across suggests that in general Psilocybes don’t get any stronger after the veil separation. I judge their maturity (picking readiness) by a rough gauge of the ratio between stem diameter and cap diameter. If they got a fatty boy stem then leave it some time for the cap to plump up to match, but those skinny stems in that photo above I would say they’ve reached 90% of their size potential. Leaving them longer will increase spore Distro sure, but also degrade the fruit and increase chance of sliggedy slugs getting to them. Eat em now son
These aren’t pins but just a group of 6 cuties i found in the wild today

okay good to know.. got a few spots that should be ready after the weekend so long as they don't get snaffled. Heres the wider shot from my last post.
I left the one on the very left to keep an eye on. Unfortunately its in a very public spot. In my short time hunting (2 weeks) i have come across one that was a giant among children. I would have loved to get some better photos but again way too many people about and I was feeling a bit sketchy as I'd already had a few people let me know they knew what I was up to (in a friendly way) HAHA they told me I was too late in the day. "You got to get out early morning to find those" they reckoned. Found a patch of 50 odd about 15mins later....

So that photo of the 6 cuties, I'm guessing that ideally they'd be left a bit longer? Interesting to hear that the big ones aren't equal potency to weight as the smaller.. must make judging doses a bit tricky. I haven't had any since 2009 and that was in oz - pretty sure they were subs (was melbourne) had 3 medium size ones fresh and had just a lvl 1 trip. You said earlier you have 4-5g dried... sounds like a lot as i gather subs are fairly potent. Ideally I'd like to have some fresh one to eat first up. How many grams fresh would you recommend as a beginner dose.

Few odd ones scattered around during the early season. Fair amount of pin activity going on now.

I know a few old heads (inc. my aucklandii guru) who judge a trip by the number of shrooms. . . Never weighed them before. . . So many variables with the fun guy and the silly simon.

Interesting bobbit.. good to know. As I said I'm a beginner, or at least its been over 10 years.. I have had a few trips but spread over canada UK OZ and some found down Dunedin, so obviously different species. I have a healthy respect for the power of the shrooms so am trying to avoid basing my dose (aiming for lvl2 first up) on anything other than advise from people who are familiar with the species and location I'm dealing with (subs nth of auck). I know maybe not 100% what this thread is about but I figure the most likely place I'll find good local knowledge.... promise I'll have some more hunt pics up in the next few days to get back on track.

typical of 'gnosas - aye, you know...I wouldn't call them unfriendly, as you can see, the heart core waving enthusiastically out at ya.
but ohhh, then there's cyans, and yeah, I just wish more females were like them. with their skirts hitched permanently 'round their neck line for me. Much gratitude when that happens.
ha. be funny if the Mexican ones waved along in a line (note: this mexico inference is completely nonfactual)

you know, if I'd bought a big bag, all these aborts would be a bit sad
roughly about the same, I guess, but less moist this side of the bridge.
don't get me wrong though. I am laterally grateful perennially, I mean come on, who doesn't love a horrible ugly, even fools aint no hiding warm n' moist in the dark,
...or random rambling cryptic comments?

Verrrrry interesting... I might just switch to the counting method rather than weight. I need to stop grinding them up to powder after drying lol

Hey bro yeah ideally leave the little guys longer to break the veil and spread their sporey goodness, but as for reaching full potency... who knows when that happens? I’m reluctant to suggest dose size without knowing you personally, but there’s heaps of resources on here and erowid (as you probably already know). It’s always safest to start with a threshold dose when re-acquainting oneself with any medicine. Even if you already experienced with journeying, by starting small and increasing next time it brings a humility to your psychedelic practice and provides a good safe platform to build from, reducing the chances of a “bad trip” (whatever the fuck a bad trip is).

A bad trip is when the person who knows you best get confused as fuck and panics enough to remind you of how crap you really think you are when compared to unattainable imaginary standards. . . Or you just think the world is plotting against you and even the daisies are spies. . .
