Furthering off of other people's warnings, here is a Galerina right next to a Sub that I found the other day. Noticing the gill colour difference could really help you out. Stay safe everyone, the Galerinas are lurking

The one on the left looks more like a Cortinarius to me. Not that you'd want to eat one of those either.

I agree Cortinarius sp.

I find that it is completely dependent on environmental conditions. I generally aim for good rains. I can't be bothered to head out until the next decent rainfall to ensure the juiciest and freshest are on selection.

I know the dosage changes from shroom to shroom but just wanted to know a rough estimate of how much to consume for a good trip if they're dried before I gobble down. Was thinking of grinding mine up and putting into caps so that the dose is consistent. Thanks

I like to grind my mushrooms for consumption but storage always in wholes. I find there is decent variation between individuals, but grinding helps to average out the potency. I can only fit 0.5g of pulverised material in a gel cap, but having one every 30 mins for 2 hours can get you somewhere beautiful :mushroom2: Eating them straight can also be a nice experience. Probably aim for around 1g and work up from there remembering the levels are not linear.

Does anyone else get the mushroom tetris effect after finding a few friends?

I've found a spot 40min drive away that is worth the drive if I find what I found there last time, but not if they haven't re-grown.

I'd say wait at least 2 weeks minimum.  Even if it doesn't rain, mushrooms will still grow (just slower).  This is due to micro climates and the dew and frost overnight that will still help water most mushrooms.

Here's some pictures back from 2016, the first was taken on the 9/4/16 and the last image was taken 2 and a half weeks later.  Same mushroom slowly growing (I went and took new pics ever 3-5 days).

A life of a Sub

So if I was you, i'd wait around 2 weeks between revisiting a particular patch

I find that the best indicator is the stem strength. If I have any doubts I kneel down and gently bend the stem. Subs hold extremely well, they are tough and firm. Other mushies and especially gallerinas just break.

I always thought the same until today. I came across some really nice, fresh looking Gallerinas and when inspecting one I noticed it's stem was almost identical to a Sub's in terms of rigidity and how fibrous it was.
The only determining factor of the stem was it's annulus and lack of bluing.
This was a bit of a shock for me as I've always found Gallerina stems to be quite flimsy.

Is it just me or are they bloody potent?!

Have dried and ground all of what I have which has come to about 25g.
Last night I thought I take a little test sample, 3/4 of a teaspoon (about 1-1.5g I'm guessing) in hot water with a squeeze of lemon juice, no taste at all!
But bloody hell, was just on the verge of full on hallucinations.
Had to concentrate to move around, typing on the phone was almost impossible and rolling smokes a huge challenge!!

I have found on the odd occasion Galerina's that looked almost exactly like a sub (stem and cap), but what I find to always be the case is that the gills will have an orange tinge to them.  That for me is the main indicator besides the other ways to tell them apart.

Over the years that I've been on this site, the subject of potency has been discussed, and from memory Subs are quite potent compared to other active mushrooms, not the most potent but maybe in the top 5 (or close to) shrooms around the world if I remember correctly.  But it is also likely that it's you too, some people need more for a certain effect, others need less for the same effect.  Seems like you may be one of the lucky ones.

Never had cubes but friends have said subs blow them out of the water dose for dose. 5g of subs is enough to put you on a psychedelic rocket ride to the depths of the universe for 8 solid hours.  I did it twice in a month haven’t tripped since. Be careful with subs they are extremely potent.

Cheers for the great trip description

Another question for you all....found a fantastic spot today, around 200 grams wet along a 10m stretch of road with another 3km of similar terrain to explore later!!
The only issue this is a reasonably busy road, busy enough that a parks and wildlife vehicle went past and had a bit of a look at me.
Has anyone been approached by parks or police in Tas?
Do you just pick and don't care who sees or thinks what?

As far as I can tell the police don't really target hunters in Tas but I'm sure if they were bored and drove past they might stop for a chat :frown:

Season End Date? [Re: Zezima4eva]
    #26677242 - 05/17/20 04:36 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hey all,
Can anyone give me a rough end date for the season down here? It’s my first season of picking and I am having some awesome beginners luck that I don’t want to end ☺️

This is yesterday’s haul, featuring the biggest (had been albino before drying) sub I have come across so far!

Was also wanting some opinions on taking old, worn out shrooms. Found a couple of massive old monsters the other day that I decided to leave on the ground as I wasn’t sure if they would have lost their potency.

Thanks for any advice!

Those Were Still Potent. They Don't Just Lose All Their Potency From Maturing. The Active Levels May Drop A Tad Bit, But They'll Still Put You On Your Ass.

They May Contain Some Bacteria, From Growing In The Wild, Which May Or May Not Give You The Shits, But Making Tea Fixes That Problem.

Hello. I am a real newbie when it comes to mushrooms, myself finding it hard to even get focused and study them due to overwhelming anxiety/depression. I would be immensely grateful for anyone who can give a few tips on good places to look, and what to look for, in Tasmania.
