ID Request (Possibly Agaricus meleagris??)
    #26677356 - 05/17/20 05:49 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Found in Nebraska. Rained recently. On a very steep slope right off a trail. The trail goes through an area that is surrounded by lakes. Growing near the base of a tree. Growing directly out of sand. No foul smell, smells very faintly of  mushroom. A patch of about 6 was found in this area.

Blackish spores, hairy cap, brown gills, and white stem, maybe compare with Lacrymaria velutina.

Stipe doesn’t fit for Lacrymaria, this is an interesting one. I’d like to see a spore print on white paper, I think it’s browner than it is black... Agrocybe of some variety maybe

Yeah, Agrocybe is definitely the first thing I thought of when I saw it. But the cap surface doesn't really match that genus.

If the gills are truly free, then I'd go with Agaricus.

If not, I'd probably start with Inocybe.

Try cutting one in half from top to bottom so we can see the inside of the stem, the flesh, and the gill attachment.

Happy mushrooming!
